What yall dont realize is that it isnt a mtter of being oto picky, its just that the stuff you are recommending doesnt exactly "rokk" in the way that Mr M understands "rokk" he is a child of the 80s, leans towards new wave and quasi-punk from that era with a nice amount of influence in hard rock/NWOBHM. choose accordingly
your leaving a very narrow window for what your looking for. doesnt sound like you want any hip hop. nor any kind of dance music. nor any kind of rock that is too mellow nor too hard for the ladies. nor any country nor jazz or blues really. nor anything that really sounds like the cure or beck. def no classical right. or anything thing else like abacab because thats more for a daytime/beer bbq type playlist. is the friday night playlist any different then the saturday night one? because i have a feeling your really trying to narrow this down almost i would say a nano friday night playlist. good luck with that
Friday night rock that you havent heard in a while let me go to left field with an idea. southern rock night? Molly Hatchett, The Outlaws, Skynryd, April Wine, Georgia Sattelittes....throw in some SRV for good measure. Maybe some Thin Lizzy, UFO, Scorpions(early), Montrose, Eddie Money etc. you know, just straight ahead rock n roll. That would be where I woudl go if I wanted to get away from my normal playlist of heavy metal and prog metal
thank you very much. The problem is as much as that stuff is great I have heard it all of a million times. Hmm. Not The Outlaws though. Interesting. I like what I hear. This will definitely go in my stoney "classic rock campfire" playlist too. Sounds like Lynard Skynard meets Zappa to me. But I would like to find some contemporary music.
Recommendations: Black Mountain...they are a new band from Canada..they rock. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xHxqTpK3lPE&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xHxqTpK3lPE&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Supergrass (oldies, but they rule)...get *anything* they've ever put out! <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WZhinVDm9yM&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WZhinVDm9yM&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> The Eagles of Death Metal...sleazy and fun. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GnYnLJgKgBw&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GnYnLJgKgBw&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

The Call and Screaming Blue Messiahs are mid to late 1980s. SBM is hard to find- rare CDs that now run for close to $100 on Amazon. The Call? Most popular song was "I Still Believe"- those of us 80s freaks remember it: I been in a cave For forty days Only a spark To light my way I wanna give out I wanna give in This is our crime This is our sin But I still believe I still believe Through the pain And the grief Through the lies Through the storms Through the cries And through the wars Oh, I still believe The Call, to me, is one of the great lost groups of the 1980s. Listen to the sample tracks for the album Reconciled on Amazon.com- very moving, driving music. Another group to check out is The Producers- "She Sheila," I feel, is the 3rd best song to come out of the 80s after New Years Day and Sweet Child of Mine (before they got burnt out). Also: Paul Kelly and the Messengers Midnight Oil Icicle Works Violent Femmes All good stuff.
Black Mountain...they are a new band from Canada..they rock. Kind of slow for the mix I want but it's alright. Supergrass (oldies, but they rule)...get *anything* they've ever put out! Herd of them. This video did nothing for me though. The Eagles of Death Metal...sleazy and fun. This is more what I'm looking for. The last band that really got my attention Turbonegro. Then they got kind of played out in a hurry. Thanks.
Oh no! The Lost Boys song. That's in my '80s playlist. It seems so something Fatty Fat b*stard would listen to. I like those other bands too. (don't think I know Paul Kelly and the Messengers though). I love The Fixx btw. I know know why I said that. It just seems to fit this post.
tried any Against Me! maybe? Don't know if that's what you are looking for, I think it's okay. They have some stuff up on Youtube.
www.pandora.com or you can listen to my station, http://www.pandora.com/stations/11df2559702c922b3a7808a62604b25bb9ec3666f66785d1
They just released their second album. It's not nearly as good as their first, imo. They have some wild concerts though.

The Freak- I think you nailed it for M.M. with Danko Jones. Rockin' with a scratchy voice. Love those guys. Another vote here for Silversun Pickups. They're phenominal.
