Tmac is a good player but he doesn't belong in the MVP race. First off he missed 15 games due to injury and second off he played poorly in a lot of games even when he was healthy. Check out Tmac's game log and you'll see many games he was below par even during this 22 game win streak. I remember a quote in the chronicle a few weeks ago where Tmac said we're winning (I believe it was 9 in a row) but I'm playing poorly.
you're totally right. and i think if rockets can keep winning, and have a good performance in playoff who's care which guy's MVP..
What??? Celtics double and triple team T-Mac only because they BELIEVE he is a superstar? They defend based on MYTH? I think Tom Thibodeau is a little more prepared than you...
well yea thibodeau is more prepared than me, notice how they DIDNT ALWAYS DOUBLE AND TRIPLE TEAM t-mac, that happened a few times, they'd trap him on the perimeter and then the help defender would back away quickly to cover his man. collins, tim ledger on espn all talked about how teams needed to play t-mac straight up more, so the 3 pt shooters don't get open. they told teams that they needed to "make" tmac beat them, meaning they thought tmac couldn't do that anymore. it's obvious to any1 who watches rockets closely, t-mac's been reduced to a jump shooter. sure, he'll come up with the occasional blow by, leading to a dunk or an open 3pt, but for the vast majority of the time, he spends his time around the 3 pt line, taking step back jump shots, or other contested ones. just look at t-mac/s hotspots courtesy of nba.com. from within the 3pt line to the paint, tmac's shooting about 42%....so again, thats why in the next weeks and months, teams with a decent perimeter defender (stephen jackson, bowen, jhoward, raja bell/ghill) can all defend tmac one vs one. the reason we won the lakers game was b/c the lakers stupidly over committed on tmac, ie fisher/farmar helped when they SHOULDN't have. better to give up a contested t-mac jumper from 17 ft, than a battier open 3. so thats why tmac's effectiveness has declined, hes lost his quickness and lift b/c of age and injury. but as long as opposing teams think t-mac's still capable of the 40pt night, they'll double him, but if they think he can't, they won't. now, yeah t-mac hit 40 against new orleans, and against utah earlier this season but tmac can ONLY score 30+ when he's "hot". when he's "feeling it'. that is, when he takes and makes transition 3s....remember that new orleans game 2 weeks ago, when tmac dropped 40? well first, jannero pargo and morris peterson were defending him...not exactly reknowned perimeter defenders... second, ALMOST ALL of his pts came off long 2s, and 3s. he got i think 4 free throws attempts that game... so this means, for us to win in the playoffs, t-mac HAS to be HOT, or we HAVE to be facing a team w/ ****ty perimeter defenders/defense...
We all love the supporting cast - but for the Rockets to advance in the playoff, McGrady will have to be the aggressor. He needs to take control of the games (James, Bryant). Thanks again ROCKETS!! Everyone had a wonderful time on the winning streak - Now we hope our expectations have not exceeded our talents.
He was... infact, he was voted top 5 multiple times.... its just mcgrady is becoming an old man at the ripe old age of 28...
He's been top 6 every year he's been healthy since his first year in Orlando. He peaked at top 3 w/ an 8 seeded Magic team.
"Peaked" - That is the main issue.. The fans are not looking for an MVP - We want to see McGrady play like Scola (Energy)... We want to see McGrady get his hands off of his hips standing at the three point line when things are not going his way... We want to see McGrady get pissed and take it out on the rim not the refs and/or his teammates
People are who they are. This is how Tracy IMO will always be. Sadly enough we can't make people fit into our little boxes.
i love tmac but what i dont get is why he always walks so slow, i mean i though hes better now, and he needs to work on his speed, he cant shake off any average defender anymore, remember when he was just as fast as kobe and could just slip thru defenders
mileage. and it's only natural. individually it may vary a bit. but kobe's window isn't really that wide open, either.
it should be chris paul if they win the conference. the lakers are vastly more talented and doesn't have a way better record. paul outplayed kobe twice this year already.
