girls usually come in threes, so you have to be prepared to go at it again.

Get on top....and have her hold her legs up in the air after intercourse.

    :D

Don't know if it will work but it will look funny !!

    for whatever it's worth. . .

my uncle and his aunt had their 2nd girl a year ago. I asked him if they would try 1 more time for a boy. he said that the doctor told him that, after 2 consecutive same-sex infants, the chances of the 3rd being a different sex RADICALLY go down.

in other words, if you have 2 girls in a row, the chances are not good that the 3rd will be a boy. obviously, there are exceptions, but if you're playing the odds, you should at least know the odds. sorry I don't have mathematic percentages to back up my hearsay.

this according to my uncle's doctor.

 .... Well I'm ok with that, But I will have to give my wife

the hard sell. You see, she's a stay-at-home mom and takes

care of the kids. while I goof around on the B.B.S.:D

Wouldn't the third child have a 50% chance of being a boy?

according to my uncle's doctor, not if the 1st 2 were girls. I teach English, though, so I get over my head with numbers pretty quickly.

obviously, we're all just guessing as to the gender of SJ's third little one.

I'm just repeating what my uncle's doctor told them.

I remember reading once that the natural odds of having a girl to having a boy are 51 : 49. I don't really see how any specific instance could cause future odds to be any different. I always thought each conception was mutually exclusive. The only way around this is if the body adjusts and tries to correct the odds which would be bizarre, but hey, I guess there are weirder things in life...

    Why wouldnt it be 50:50?
Isn't that one of the laws of genetics or something?

According to an article I recently read in JAMA (Journal of American Medical Association), increasing the frequency of intercourse can greatly improve your chances of having a boy.

Yeah, I always thought having kids was like flipping a coin. You have a 50/50 shot at getting what you want and what you don't want. Why in the heck would it be 51/49???

I am fairly sure genetic defects are more common in boys (because they have only 1 x chromosome). Thus probably at conception it is 50/50, but I am guess slightly fewer boys make it through birth because of defects that either don’t let it form or result in the mother’s body rejecting the pregnancy.

Maybe one of our BBS geneticists can tell us more.

Never heard that the odds of a boy/girl change with previous history. I think the Doc is mistaken, but again we need one of those BBS geneticist to really straiten us out.

Uh, I believe that it makes a difference if it's in the morning or at night. Something to do with the sperm that carry the X/Y chromosomes? There was a section in my biology book about it... but I wasn't really interested at the time :).

Just trying to give you a lead...

Where's Isabel? Wouldn't she know something about this stuff? I thought she was a biologist or geneticist or something...

As for the 51-49% thingy... I agree with you that the mathematical odds would be 50-50. Can't remember how they arrived at the 51-49 percentage. I'm sure there's some biological explanation.

Here's a short ABC News article on a study done by Danish scientists that says if your first kid is a boy, chances are slightly greater that the next will be also. The chances actually continue getting greater the more consecutive gender babies you have (according to the study anyway) :

I learned in sexual education at UT that female sperm (X) outlives male sperm (Y) so you may want to talk to a doctor on how to increase the viability of Y if possible.
