I have been pondering about this for a while, and I sincerely believe that the Philadelphia 76ers are the Rockets of the Eastern Conference. After their win over San Antonio, I figured it is about time for a poll.

Here's a list of the top tier teams that they have defeated: Houston (TWICE), Dallas, Orlando, Phoenix, Detroit, San Antonio.

Call me an idiot, but I think its remarkable that they have gone 14-4 since a 19-30 record. Take into account that the wins over all the top tier teams that I mentioned earlier (except for us) were in this streak, and you have a pretty impressive run. Not to mention that the losses have been to Orlando, Golden State, Boston (and Minnesota) and you have a feel-good story.

They do it like us: 1 superstar (T-Mac/Iguodala), great team chemistry, majority of the bench plays, powerful PG play (Alston/Miller), up and coming players (Luis Scola, Carl Landry, Aaron Brooks/Louis Williams, Thadeus Young, Rodney Carney), no-nonsense dirty work guy (Chuck, Landry/Reggie Evans), Constant defensive presence down low (Deke/Dalembert)

Before you guys say they don't play too much defense, look at the stats: 3rd lowest points allowed in the east....behind Boston and Detroit. Though their defensive stats are not spectacular (although they are 5th in the league in steals) they do the one thing that our team is doing night in and night out and is the MOST important reason for both of the teams' success:

The players leave it all out on the floor every night...

I don't know about you guys, but I will cheer for that team to make the playoffs, and shake things up a bit!

Well this is my first post and it is not wasted on this topic :p

I also do feel the same way as you. They seem to lay it out on the floor every night.

Thaddeus Young is kind of like Scola, too, in that he has gotten more minutes as the Sixers have gotten better. Thaddeus happens to be 8 years younger, though, and nowhere near as experienced...

I can't say I'm surprised you just called Iguodala a superstar with the strange fetish this board has regarding certain players, but wow...

All I was implying about AI's comparison w/ TMAC is that he is their go-to guy. He is a role player at best, on most other teams, but on this team he IS the man. He is a great defender who can score, not your typical franchise player who is a great scorer who can/can't defend.

Iggy isn't on TMac's level, and I think that'll screw them. But they're doing well.

I can see some similarities. If you take the watered-down aspect of the East and apply it to the Sixers, then sure, they're the Rox of the east.

Just like the East is the West's armpit, and Iguodala is McGrady's armpit.

They are a Battier, a battle tested Scola and an Adelman away to be Rockets.
