I hope the Wizards take somebody down in the first round of the playoffs.

MRI Exam Could Clear Way for Arenas

    By Ivan Carter
    Washington Post Staff Writer

Gilbert Arenas said he plans on undergoing an MRI exam on his surgically repaired left knee tomorrow or Tuesday and if the results come back positive, he may return to game action as soon as Wednesday night, when the Wizards open a two-game trip at Orlando.

Arenas, who has been out since Nov. 17 and had surgery to repair a partial tear in his left medial meniscus on Nov. 21, has participated in four full practices but said he has yet to be cleared for game action by team doctors.

"I wanted to play [Thursday night against Cleveland] but the doctor said I should take another MRI just to be sure," Arenas said prior to last night's game against the Clippers. "After I get my MRI, I can play if everything is fine."

As of last night, no MRI had been scheduled, according to a team source.

Arenas, who said he will opt out of the final season of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent this summer, has taken a more cautious approach to his current rehabilitation process than the one he went through after undergoing surgery to repair a left lateral meniscus tear last April.

He was cleared to go full speed when training camp opened in October and played in the first eight games but aggravated the injury during a loss at Minnesota on Nov. 16 and has not played since the second surgery.

When he was cleared to return to practice on March 3, Arenas said he hoped to be playing by the time the team embarks on a five-game road trip out west. The trip opens on March 25 in Portland.

Amazing recovery. I hope he hasn't lost a step though. The way Caron and Jamison are STEPPING UP without him, they could be a force (finally) in the weak East.

We don't play the Wizards any more, so hopefully they will make it tough on the other Western Conference teams. They will be a tougher win for sure.

It's almost like the situation with the Rockets when Tmac was out and our role players went on a tear. Will Gilbert fit in without destroying chemistry and progress? I don't really follow the Wizards at all, so my take on them may be off.

I hope Washington can go on a little bit of a streak so they can move up in the seeds and face Cleveland in the playoffs. I would love to see Gilbert have his revenge on Lerbon. They're 2-2 against the Cavs this season, where as they're 0-2 vs Orlando, which is who they're gonna face if the playoffs started today.

Isn't Gilbert a free agent this coming off season? It's gonna be fun watching him really take off in the playoffs. I really hope they meet the Cavs. I don't like Gilbert as much, but I really hate Lerbon and I would love to see the king lose.
