Okay, so I bought a brand new pair of Ipod retractable earbuds from eBay and on the back of the package, the following message is printed:

*WARNING: This product contains chemicals, including lead, known to the State of California to cause cancer, and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.

I typed the message exactly as it appears. I contacted the guy that sold it and he doesn't know anything about it. I don't want to send it back for a refund because after shipping and everything, I am only going to get back $1 or $2.

I haven't opened the package yet, and I have tried researching the internet for any news releases or anything about the item, but nothing comes up other than some sites selling the product.

Here is a link to Amazon selling the product: http://www.amazon.com/myTunes-retractable-earphones-use-iPOD/dp/B000PAQA90/ref=sr_1_9/105-4362892-9910820?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1205563980&sr=8-9

I don't mind having to throw the thing away, but I just don't want to have to order another pair and wait for it because I only use the Ipod for running and if I miss a day or two of my running, then I will more than likely give it up again for a couple of months! :(

    Phase 1.) Throw "earbuds" away.
Phase 2.) Go running without I-Pod
    Phase 3.) Profit

Seriously, you don't need the I-Pod to go running. Just listen to beautiful natural Houston sounds, like traffic.

Also, anyone who had ever watched an episode of Law&Order knows that people are one-billion times more likely to be mugged if they are jogging with headphones on.

Yeah, I don't feel safe wearing them. I am just going to get rid of them and buy a pair of the ones Shastarocket pointed out. Those look badass! Thanks man!

Does anyone who uses ear buds in the range of 10-30 bucks, have to replace them often?

Like once every month or so. Every time I have ear buds, they stop working after a while. Thus I just started buying cheap ear buds that I can replace every few weeks or so.

Just wondering if anybody experiences their ear buds go bad. My other forms of ear phones work fine for over a year, but I have trouble with ear buds specifically for some reason.

The warning label is the result of a much-delayed piece of legislation by state of California. A ton of products now come with the label, such as your earbuds and even computer mice. Irrespective of the amount of lead found in the product, they must all display the same dire warning on the packaging.

Ok, you can breathe a sigh of relief.

Any time you see any kind of a warning label that says anything about 'known to the state of California' to cause any kind of trouble, 99.9999% of the time you can completely ignore it.

The only reason these labels exist is because California is one of those states where people have gone lawsuit-happy, and this is simply an attempt by manufacturers to try to protect themselves from frivolous lawsuits, nothing more.

Yea, I have the same problem. I have gone over 12+ earbuds in the last two years and the weird thing is, I didn't even use them during any activities. I would only use them when I was in my dorm or apartment and wanted to listen to music. Then out of no where, one of the earbuds would stop working or the wiring you get missed up. And the weird thing was, they were all officially licensed Ipod earbuds. I bought the first 4 or 5 from the Apple Store and then I moved to ebay once I noticed the trend of them breaking so soon.

You do realize that CA puts that message on virtually EVERYTHING right? If you go into a parking garage here, you will see virtually the exact same sign regarding the smog from cars, etc. The sign is so overused in CA that it is meaningless because you don't know when something is a real risk.

Edit: Sorry I missed Nero's reply who said virtually the same thing.

LOL, those are not "bad boys", those are little brothers for inner ear. Bascially nothing but bass.

I picked up these, and trust me, after a 48 hours burn in, for inner ear buds, these rock. The sound is incredible, well worth the extra cash.

They in no way compete with my over the ear Senns, but they kick ass for carry arounds.
