You were the one saying that they had this non sheltered childhood and it is just ridiculous. Obviously, the Clinton's did a better job at raising their child than the Bush's.
This case of Jeb Bush's daughter getting arrested actually happened just down the street from my place, on US 27 in Tallahassee. Strange... Whether or not she was raised right, it just seems that the Bush family - Jeb, Dubya, or even H - can't escape controversy. Still was a pretty dumb thing for someone to do, even someone who had been through three years of college.
How exactly is living the the White House under the spotlight of the presidency "sheltered???" Good Lord, that has to be the most un-sheltered spot on the planet. I mean, would grown adults go around discussing the awkwardness and lack of beauty of a girl who grew up the daughter of an auto mechanic in Boise, Idaho? The Clinton's may have tried to INSULATE their daughter, but to be a teenager in the White House has to be just a nightmare. It's tough enough to be a teenager in the normal world.
Although I think that President Bush is two brain cells away from being a chimp in a suit (and even chimps can manage not to choke on pretzels, but I digress...), I wish you lame-ass people would lay off the moralisitic grandstanding about this stuff. I know you are all personally effected when a college girl gets busted for drinking, or pills...please! I wish you martinets were so impassioned about something that actually matters. And are we really debating Chelsea Clinton vs. the Bush girls? Oh, God that's lame! Do any of you really care? Would any of your political opinions be changed by this debate? If you want to talk about Bush relatives that are really criminal, why not talk about Neil Bush...he's the stuff that Enron's dream$ were made of...
I haven't meet the Chelsea or the Bush daughters (Dubya, not Jeb), but I don't see how people that don't know both can judge them fairly. I don't know how well adjusted they are to the world. The Bush girls have experienced some adversity. They've made some bad decisions, but they made decisions. I haven't heard anything that suggests Dubya did a bad job. It sickens me when celebs, politicians are held to higher or lower standards than the general public. I drank illegally. I used my older brother's ID to buy alcohol. I don't consider my parents to be failures. My parents let me screw up to some degree, but I never screwed up big time because I had to accept the consequences to my actions plus additional punishment they'd throw on.
If you want to go back to the days as governor, Chelsea was a governor's daughter before she hit double digits. Besides, I really don't think it has much to do with it either way. You can have kids grow up in the same family and turn out different.
This thread is one of the most pathetic I've seen in the history of this BBS. There are a lot of people posting here who should take a step back, take a deep breath, and ask themselves if they're really coming across the way they want to in this thread. Taking partisan politics to this level is sickening. I'm pretty disappointed that so many people paid lip service to the post-911 bipartisanship and slipped right back into making fun of people's daughter because of their looks or personal habits.
These are great points Jeff. I agree that being a teenager is already one hell of job already then add that you're the president's child probably multiplies it by 100. I mean you're right, how can one's life possibly be sheltered when your in the shadow of the president. If Chelsea Clinton would've done any of the things the Bush daughters did or have done then she too would have been put on the spot by the media. These are just poor mistakes by the Bush daughters.
