Me too, great flick. I try to watch it every time it comes around...much like Bladerunner. I have always wondered why this one got such a bad rep. Maybe it's just a Kevin C. hating thing. Another, and this one is ancient, "A boy and his dog". One of Don Johnson's earlier movie...a sci-fi that came out sometime around the mid 70s.
The theatrical version got pretty bad reviews...if you liked that one then you owe it yourself to watch the director's cut....and if you've only seen the director's cut then watch the theatrical version and see why it didn't get good reviews. I've loved all the Star Wars movies... V, III, II, VI, IV, I in that order. I actually don't have that big a problem with Jar Jar. I loved Superman Returns (except for Parkey Posey) and Troy. I'm also a sucker for romantic comedies...so I liked Can't Hardly Wait (sucker for JLH), Serendipity (pretty much like anything John Cusack) and Wimbledon to name a few...all of which are considered to be mediocre at best by critics. Take that back...Wimbledon actually got a fresh rating on rottentomatoes.
American Ninja (I-III) Death Wish Invasion USA Missing in Action (I - III) Hero & the Terror American Cyborg: Steel Warriors (Golan-Globus - Cannon movies) Trancers Sho Kusugi movies
"P6 chip. Triple the speed of the Pentium." "Yeah. It's not just the chip, it has a PCI bus. But you knew that." "RISC architecture is gonna change EVERYTHING." That movie was pure cheez....like Wizard for Nintendo geeks.
Howard the Duck & Short Circuit 2 Two movies way ahead of their time. I guess people weren't ready for Interspecies or Interracial love.
i was watching Wild Wild West the other night and thinking about starting a thread like this. all i ever heard was how terrible it was and then i watched it on tnt or tbs and really liked it (though i can see how it fell flat with most people). thought klein and smith were pretty damn funny together. another one is The Whole Ten Yards. The Whole Nine Yards got pretty good reviews but the sequal got terrible ratings. i thought the mob-boss guy was hilarious and i always think matthew perry (and to a lesser extent, bruce willis) is hilarious so i liked it. and no one seems to think much of The Great Outdoors but that was my favorite movie as a kid and i still love it to this day. can damn near quote the whole thing while watching it. great movie. whoa now, liking the prequels or not (i don't hate them as much as others do either), lets not go saying crazy things like return of the jedi is the worst of the 6 star wars movies. whoa now, liking the prequels or not, lets not go saying crazy things like the empire strikes back was only the 4th best star wars movies.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Tideland - two of Terry Gilliam's best works. I can understand why the critics don't like them, but I think they are awesome.
Ewoks. ****ing teddy bears with stone age tech SLAUGHTER an "entire legion of [the Emperor's] best troops." Since they have inter-stellar travel, that is a bigger technological advantage than sending the modern US military, even a light infantry unit, against some tribe in South America that has stone tipped arrows and blowguns and stuff. I know it is all a fantasy, but some internal logic would be nice. no matter how stupid Jake Lloyd and the medichlorians were, it at least made sense if you just took it all at face value. To get something like the Battle of Endor, it would be like the alien ships in ID4 getting taken down by a kid with a slingshot.
Makes you wonder why on earth the Wookies weren't used instead...in fact, rewriting a few things to replace the Gungans with the Wookies (hell why not just replace Naboo with Kashiik) and the Ewoks with Wookies (maybe a community of rogue Wookies, survivors from the battle in Ep III) would allow for a helluva lot more character development with a major race of species within Star Wars lore (a lot more insight into Chewbacca than the few minutes you get in Ep III), and you eliminate the bumbling nature and strictly comedic purpose of the Gungans and make the Battle for Endor a lot more realistic.
Agreed, but I think the long awaited showdown between Luke and the Emperor makes up for the Ewoks. And - Hello??? - Princess Leia and the slave costume??
Luke just gets freakin' worked by the Emperor anyway. Only Yoda and Mace Windu gave the Emperor a fight. You would think Yoda would have taught Luke how to catch the force lightning since he knew the Emperor would use it, or failing that, at least tell him not to go all Buddhist monk on the guy and throw away his lightsaber. Pft, Amidala > Leia. I especially like the overly elaborate hair and make-up when she is the queen (although the very concept of an elected queen with a term of office is a bit bizarre).
Excellent taste if I do say so myself. A few more that were mentioned: Waterworld The Beach (Couldn't believe it was at 19% its one of my all time favs) Did anyone ever see "The Hard Way" with Michael J Fox & James Woods? Also, if were mentioning Hudson Hawk we can't forget about Lincoln Hawk as well:
I watched both Waterworld and The Postman recently, and loved them both. I also loved both Matrix sequels. Starship Troopers is one of my favorite action/sci-fi flicks. I loved Howard the Duck, but watched it recently and it was horrible. Some movies are meant to be kept in your childhood memories.
SPOILER!! j/k. Lot of people told me they didn't like the movie Troy but I loved that movie. I keep watching the hector/achilles fight over and over again.
