I've been using OTA since I had my HDTV and I can get all channels except PBS (I live in Aldine area). Any idea if this will pick it up?
Don't forget to buy one of them cheap 10' HDMI cables from FRY's, sir. Buy 2 just 'cuz they're so cheap, and you'll be ready if you get a BLU-RAY or PS3. PoloTShirtBandit, neither can I, and I am in KATY. I think I might try an HDTV antenna, instead of a cheap RCA amplified one I have. Damn you, U-Verse... you don't get PBS in HD. I'll go buy it today, and I will let you know, cool?
Pssssshaw! Out of anyone, I would think Tinman would know that plasma's are going the way of the eight track. http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/biz/archives/2008/03/08/2003404635
Oh I believe LCDs are overtaking Plasmas. Plasmas will exist only as a high-end product with Panasonic/Pioneer/Fujitsu being the only manufacturers. However for that price and picture quality and that 15,000 to 1 contrast ratio. that's a pretty good deal. http://reviews.cnet.com/4370-6485_7-168-110.html Even rear projections are going away, with Samsung DLP the only one left (Sony is leaving the Wega and SXRDs )
Is Samsung the only guys who make DLP's now? I absolutely LOVE my DLP. My buddies with Plasma's and LCD's even rave about the color quality and zero lag when they're over.
mitsubishi does. however samsung has dropped the color-wheel and decided to go with LED panels. which is good cause you have less moving parts and you don't have to deal with replacing a bulb.
Horrible that Sony is giving up on the RPs. Their sets produced incredible picture, great settings, durability, etc... And people don't realize they were lighter than most plasma screens. The bang for the buck you got from a Sony RP is unprecedented. I may pick one up before they disappear just because they are that good and cheap. The last thing I need is another big screen. But...
we have some sony fanboys here, but they only care about videogames. they don't know that sony, before playstation, was best known for their TVs. The trinitrons and WEGAs were the best you can buy. The RPTVs are great values for TVs, but unfortunately they aren't as profitable as Flat Panels. Stores can tack on wall mounting gear and installation to make greater profits. Why sell a $1500 50in RPTV when you can sell a $3000 Flat Panel thats the same size? not everybody plays videogames or interested in highdef discs, but everyone watches tv.
For your cables and mount buy from www.monoprice.com I bought my mount for my 42" plasma and 50' of HDMI, Component, Composite, and VGA cables there, AND a remote control Component switch box- all for around $130 shipped. Do NOT buy from the store. They have insane markups, like $150 for a mount alone.
Just a heads up - you can purchase a 42" LG 1080p LCD from Best Buy for $996 starting this Sunday till the 22nd.
I'm going to plug Samsung here - I just bought a 32" LCD and it's stunning. They make the best-reviewed LCDs, and their budget line (LN-Txx42H, xx being the size) is competitive price-wise with other LCD manufacturers. Bravia XBRs are the best I've seen, but they're also quite expensive Also, purchase the TV on an AMEX gold or platinum card if you have one. They match the manufacturer's warranty for up to a year, which is extremely useful for electronics
Went to Fry's last night, this sounds a great price compared to Fry's. Since i'm not getting my cable sooner I'll just shop around online...
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Olev...sem/rpsm/oid/192330/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do Olevia 47" 1080p LCD TV for 1200 bucks with free shipping. And I highly recommend Olevia (I have 3 Olevias)
H-Town, TeamUSA's budget is < = $1000 . TeamUSA, you can get an HDTV and still watch HD tonight... but just locals, and PBS channel 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3. Don't let ComCast bring you down, yo. Get U-verse (click the "offers" tab).
