The first few Tragically Hip albums were great. I don't think anybody outside of Canada has heard of them, though. Wide Mouth Mason is a pretty good rock band that nobody seems to know. delirious? is another.

It's great! Did the Hip get air play down there? I heard that they never really broke into the US market.

I wasn't trying to insult you. Enuff Z Nuff was/is not a glam act. The only thing glam about them was their look in the beginning. However, their music has never been glam. They actually did receive some critical praise initially, with Rolling Stone naming them Hot New Band in '91. They have been producing outstanding power pop for about the last 12 years.

I was going to post Rush, but didnt want this to turn into a bash Rush thread.

Geddy Lee has got to be one of the best bassists out there (and my inspiration to start playing bass) and Neal Peart is one of the most mechanicaly sound drummer ever.

They've done nothing but put out hit after hit and get tons of airplay on the radio and MTV.

You can't say that about most of the groups listed in this thread, that's why I don't think they're underrated.

They're rated just right in my opinion...

I worked for the Austin Ice Bats, a minor league hockey team...and all the players loved them, so I gave them a shot.

In my opinion, there is no way in hell RHCP is underrated...not even close. It is true that MTV and the radio have given RCHP tons of airplay. I was basically forced into liking them as I resisted at first. But, I couldn't get away from them....they were everywhere! Every time they release a new album....they are everywhere again. They may not have received much exposure starting out....but since they made it to the big leagues....they have received a ton of exposure which I would rate comparable to U2.

If anything, I think their overrated.

    FREAK:

It's cool. My post was just a reaction so don't take it personally. I did go to a website and got a brief rundown of their history. Like I said, I only knew of that one song so my opinion was definitely one sided. Everyone's got different tastes and to each his own. It's a tribute to them that they've remained together this long when most of the bands from their era have split up. Some of my alltime fav's came from that era and almost all of them are no longer playing together much less speaking to each other. Glad you didn't over-react to my over-reaction. But I still doubt I'll ever take the time to give them a thorough listening to, just as I don't expect anyone to enlighten themselves by going back and listening to all the Dokken albums :D

i can't argue or dispute your reason, mainly, of course, because it's your opinion, but also because corigan and stipe do the same thing to me, so i know where you're coming from.

but i've been a fan a long time, and he's grown up a lot. i dare say there's not another band that takes better care of their fans than pj.

ugh. this is why i try to stay away from these threads. creed is a souless band that couldn't, even if it wanted to (and it doesn't, btw), challenge its audience. they're a one-note, connect-the-dot, meandering band that's about as banal as bands get. they're the hard rock version of matchbox 20.

and fwiw, stone gossard played a role in creating three unique and influential bands. the guy from creed owes his livlihood to stone gossard and pearl jam because all he does is borrow their long-ago deserted ten licks. and don't get me started on their leather pant-wearing lead singer with the jesus complex.

Bigman: what website did you go to? I don't know of many websites that would have much EZN info, other than allmusic.com. You like Dokken, eh? Funny, they're one of the few 80s bands I could never get into. :)

You guys amaze me. You are fans of Rush, Skinny Puppy, and The Tragically Hip!? I figured you've probably heard of Brian Adams, The Crash Test Dummies, The Barenaked Ladies, maybe Bachman Turner Overdrive (BTO), The Band, and The Guess Who, if you're oldtimers. But your listing some of my favourite Canadian bands of my youth as your most underrated!? I'm likin' Houston more and more all the time! I'm going to have to get there some time. :)

    RM95:
Up to Here is my favourite. Check it out if you can find it. Try Wide Mouth Mason, if you like the Hip. They aren't quite the same, but it's good Canadian rock, if there is such a thing.

izzy stradlin definitely, see where gnr went after he left.

i'll throw in oasis, i think it was popular to dislike them probably cause the singer's an ass, but they're huge in europe, just pure rock n roll.

    Ric:

That's always the biggest knock on Creed: that the singer sounds way too much like the others mentioned. Personally, I'm getting tired of that nasal type of crooning, ala Stone Temple, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, etc. Let's face it though, everyone is influenced by someone or another and these must be his influences. And you're right, Creed is a money making, commercialized machine. (even if you didn't say it). And to PJ's credit, they never sold out.

    Freak:
Here is the link I found: http://www.enuffznuff.com/ . Not sure if this link will work with my post so here it is: http://www.enuffznuff.com/

Anyways, Dokken was a fave of mine because of their guitarist. My tastes in music have always been guitar oriented, however, as I've grown older I've come to appreciate a hell of a lot more than my narrow mind allowed me to back in the day.

So how about Ratt? Surely, every child of the 80's loves Ratt ;)
