That pretty much sums it up. The republican party would do so much better if they actually took religion out of politics. I am Christian and a Repub, but think the two should have nothing to do with each other.

    Also, I hate Delay.

S L Jackson is not high on my list eaither. Why can't that district get a good leader. Jackson does look good when standing next to Washington, but....

I don't think I've ever talked down to anybody on this board, except in retaliation for personal insults. I do have an explosive temper. I hope, and think, I've always given people the benefit of the doubt until they utterly prove that they deserve no such regard. Once people display a certain degree of ignorance, I do become rather dismissive. But never from the outset.

You do have a tendency to talk down to other people. When the argument starts getting deep, you start flaunting your high-and-mighty education, and insinuate that your opponent must be the village idiot who stumbled into a conversation that's so far over his IQ that he can't possibly understand what's going on...

But hey, you're not the only one who does that. :D

Rosie O'Donnell supposedly comes out of the closet in her new book to be released in April. I would be proud of her if she hadn't spent the last 7 years saying she has the hots for Tom Cruise.

Actually, that's when I'm least likely to be condescending.

Ultimately, I sort of take Bertrand Russell's position that arguments can (almost) all be reduced to mathematic/symbolic equations. While it's not often necessary to do this, that's what I believe the underlying structure of an argument is like.

There can certainly be valid, contradicting claims. I wish everyone agreed with me, but hell... I'm wrong sometimes. And sometimes even though I'm wrong, my argument is still valid in itself. Or the other way around.

Now, I get annoyed when someone's arguement consists of 2+2 = 5. It's often impossible to prove that one side is "right", but at least everyone should be able to stay within the bounds of logic. I start getting infuriated (and downright rude, I admit) when I'm certain that the other person's underlying logic is flawed.

Mango's a poster with whom I usually disagree, but I would never, ever question his intelligence. I disagree with most of what you think about foreign relations as well, I think. But I also usually. think your perspective is valid. We operate under different assumptions, but once we start arguing... I think both of us usually are saying 2+2=4.

As long as someone stays within that framework, I'm not going to "talk down to them." I will never talk down to someone for disagreeing with me. It's when the underlying logic of their statements are flawed that I become abusive... usually when I manage to (imo) point out the flaw in their argument, point blank, and they refuse to acknowledge it.

And then there's the issue that truly pisses me off... when people deny the value of logic in argumentation. What's the point of arguing then? If there aren't any ways of determining validity, we might as well just throw our hands up and not bother each other with pure opinions.

Is it that haven is condescending or is it that he simply uses his education to defend his points and that SOUNDS condescending? My wife used to use big words when she was a little girl (she was a VERY smart kid) and neighbors would tell her mother that she was a little know-it-all because she would use words they didn't understand or they thought were too big.

With haven, it may be combination of both some condescention (un-intended as it may be) on his part and some just not liking someone talking that way to us.

I want haven to take over the world. Then people like Tom Delay and Trent Lott would be forced to learn how to actually use AKs, and they would have to use painted, shredded underwear as headgarb.

I don't know which side I'd make a killing off of advising. Business would be good either way! :D

I must admit, though, that I'd love even more the prospect of teaching Jesse Jackson how to use underwear as camoflage... I think I'd tell him that flourescent orange undies worn on the head best blend into throttling crowds of Oprah wannabes...

    :D

    The usual suspects of course:

    Jesse Jackson
    Rosie O'Donut
    Al Sharpton
    etc.

Here's one that hasn't been mentioned.

Al Gore - made a total ass out of himself during an election that should have been a cakewalk. Managed to blow it by losing his own state (Tenn) and Arkansas. Lied and embellished stories during his debates as well.

Remember his story about the girl who didin't have a desk in the classroom in Saratoga, Fla? How about the lie about coming down to Texas during the flooding with the FEMA director? His worst mistake IMHO was to dissociate himself from Slick Willie.
