Bill's comment about Andy Griffith were extremely sad. Andy Griffith has lived his life very differently. Wasn't he a guy who stressed family values his entire life. He was even a super singer of folk and Christian songs. They were trying to be funny, but they literally had the conversation to drunk guy's would be having; a nonsensical blab fest. An apology to all persons mentioned should be in order.
U don't think dying the way he died is enough of a criticism. Have more respected for the dearly departed. The man has paid his dues with his life, let him go.
Some of you guys are ridiculous. I can't believe how upset this makes you. Eddie Griffin was an unbelievable talent who WASTED it all away. He had no one to blame but himself...he chose to live the lifestyle that he lived. His horrible death was undeserved and sad, but just because he died a tragic death shouldn't discount the fact that he was a waste of talent and it was a bad trade. Who cares if Clyde talks about it? It's freaking true!
At my age, I can't get worked up about people dying. The outcome of that draft really pissed me off. I was HOT after EG didn't pan out. That was THREE wasted first round draft picks. THREE! And now? I'm suppose to continuously feel sorry for him? Hell no, he's in a better place than all of us mortals. So I go back at being more bummed about the draft.
Uh, people die at all ages. And does this matter? Sorry, no. Respectful of another human soul, yes. Back to being self absorbed?
I'm not going to battle you (like your above format) or try to convince you that my ideas or feelings about life and after life is valid, or not. But calling me self absorbed? You're entitled to your opinion, I'll give you that, but you know nothing about me and my life experiences that created me.
No, I mean didn't Clyde have a higher aura of respectability about him before he got into broadcasting? I, of one, had no idea he was this stupid. He seemed fairly intelligent on interviews and on the court as a player. I wonder how many other players would lose that aura of respectability if they had turned into broadcasting people?
I think you can criticize without making jokes. I didn't hear the comments, it seems like the conversation started off with a straight forward remark about the trade. Its almost impossible to not mention that, but a nice RIP type remark would have probably been appropriate, especially since they probably haven't mentioned eddie all year.
I love Clyde, the player, but as a person, he's a moron. Not the sharpest tool in the shed. He probably forgot Eddie is dead, but there's still no excuse. Can't believe that he even brought up the subject. Worrell should have nipped it in the bud. Really wrong of them. The andy griffen comment was mean-spirited.
I absolutely agree 100%. I was making fun of the overreaction by some. They never strayed beyond his basketball playing abilities. They didn't touch his personal issues or anything like that. I think it was a tad inappropriate it being so close to his death, but I don't think they were stomping on Eddie's grave either.
one more thing: all you guys that want to pass judgement on Eddie by saying that he deserves being joked about because he didn't live a good life; you are fools. You have no idea if he had mental problems or what. you have know idea what he was going through. You don't joke on the air about a former player who was troubled, young, and died tragically in flames. I hate Clyde as a commentator and hope people wake up to the fact that he needs to be replaced. Bill, is fine, but I'm so dissappointed in his willingness to joke about eddie (i'm sure he knows how eddie died). and i'm not being oversensitive, I just think Bill and Clyde represent the organization on TV, and I hate to see the organization look classless.
I don't know, I think celebrities and politicians are of a different class when it comes to this stuff. They open themselves up to being made fun of and mocked for anything. It's part of the price for having a privledged life that fame and fortune provide. But come on here - if a celebrity tragically dies you are saying it's wrong to mock how bad they were in real life? People do that all the time. How many pop musicians with terrible hairdo's have commited suicide? So now no one on air can make fun of their hair do's? Clyde was mocking his game, not the way he died. And if you watch most comedy - they actually mock the way celebrities die.
