It's Championship Week, so I guess it's time to start this thread. The SLC Tournament will start tomorrow at the Merrell Center in Katy. Lamar plays at noon, and if they win, I'll be there for the second game on Friday (and the Finals on Sunday if they make it that far). It should be really good. The 4/5 Seeds, Southeastern and Northwestern are really hitting their stride, so they should be pretty good. SFA has been dominant, Lamar has been good, and while Sam Houston hasn't lived up to expectations, they are still really good.
You know, I really like tournaments where not every team in the conference is eligible. I think it's really dumb that these small conferences allow their best team to be left out of the tournament because some team that went 1-15 during conference play got hot at the right time. This ensures that a totally crappy team won't rep the conference in the NCAAT.
SFA looks pretty unbeatable right now. Lamar looks good too. Not sure what's up with my Bearkats this year. Maybe we can get hot and win this thing, but I have my doubts. Just doesn't appear to be our year.
I'll go to the Championship game for sure since it's being played about five minutes from the house and in the shadow of my old high school. Rooting for SFA now that my Bobcats aren't in it. Dating a Jack will do that to ya.
They started out so damn well. It was disappointing to see how the rest of the season went. Hopefully, we'll get hot and take out Lamar (revenge for last year). If they can get to the title game, I'd give them a fair shot to take down the Ladyjacks.
Lamar with one of the more epic collapses in school history, honestly. No other way to put it. After starting the conference year 12-1, they needed only two more wins to win an outright conference title and assure themselves of an NIT berth at worst. They lose two of the last three, both to mid-level teams, to blow that... followed up by a loss in the first round in the conference tournament to a team that barely even qualified for it. Ridiculous. I would've almost preferred another 9-7 type season, as opposed to playing outstanding for 90 percent of the season, raising expectations and falling apart down the stretch.
WOW, that's a shocker! I was hoping Lamar would win and SHSU would win so we could get our revenge for what happened last year in the tournament. Oh well... GO KATS.
I am ready for my Jacks to finally make the NCAA's!! Each year it seems we lose in the finals on a 3 in overtime!! Give it up for this years George Mason!!
Beerkats win a nail-biter in OT. SFA wins too. Hopefully both teams can take care of business tonight and set up a nationally televised basketball version of "The Battle of the Piney Woods" on Sunday, with the winner getting a NCAA berth. That would be fun, especially since the game would end right as the Rocket games starts! GO KATS
Northwestern put a beatdown on Southeastern. Mike McConathy is still the best coach in the league. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they beat a better SFA team today.
If SFA plays defense anywhere near what they are used too this game should not be close five minutes after the half. BUT, that is why they play the game. Right Lamar!
It's not exactly the same, but the Lady Cards made the Conference Championship game tomorrow against UTSA. I'm going to try to make it over and watch them. Tamara Abalde makes them easier to watch.
G-d damn UTA beating my SHSU. SFA goes down, too. This is bad for the conference. If SFA gets in, they're looking at a 12 or 13 seed. SHSU could have gotten as high as a 14. Some respect for the SLC. Now, it's probably another play-in game no matter which one gets in.
