This has to be the first time i disagreed with someone on Clutchfans and even categorically got them to agree. How sweet it is.
masterful job. well done. now watch DD come back to say he was right, and wasn't really agreeing with you.
I would be surprised if the league select Scola as ROY, nevertheless he is legit contender and he is very good. I am very happy to see him ranked No.1 in espn rookie and I hope he can win it also.
I've been having fun ragging on my brother-in-law about the Rockets stealing Scola. He lives in SA, has some great season tickets, and is a huge Spers fan. And now we're doing what was unthinkable just a month ago... sniffing on the heals of the Spers, a game back, and riding the streak. Man, I hope they can keep it going!
LOL - We missed you at the game last night HP, spoke to Naismith...and we talked about how much fun it is when you are there. As for the topic, I said Scola creates the best shots for the perimeter guys out of everyone on the team, and the reason is exactly as described....but meh, who cares...19 in a row. GO ROCKS ! DD
Last page of this thread I ended up courtside, and will be posting a seperate thread about the experience with pics in a bit. DD
Your right, the numbers don't really compare but at least as of now, Scola is having a greater effect on his team. Kevin will win it, and probably justifiably so, but I just love what Scola is doing and that he is getting very real acknowledgment from the national media.
Durant is more athletics, but Scola is more skilled, a better basketball player at this point. Non-basketball people tend to confuse the athleticism with basketball talent, in their eyes, players like Bird, Magic, Nash, and Yao, are not very talent because they don't jump as high, don't do those fancy dunks. Athletes don't win games, players do.
I agree. Scola is the key sparkplug IMO. Scola tips the scales in favor of hustle, intensity, grit, tenaciousness, dominance. Dealing with Hayes and BAttier on the court at the same time means you probably won't score four or five times when you thought you should have. Adding Scola and the Landry to the mix, then you aren't scoring 8 to ten times when you thought you should have, and you are getting dunked on and run over and run through on the offensive end as well. Rafer gets in on the energy, and Luther and Novak just need space to shoot. TMac IMO has always been dominant, but the difference is now that he is just fitting in... to the tune of 40 something a night if need be. Long story short, Scola is the central sparkplug. He needs not the limelight, just for his team to win, and that is what is happening. That is just what is happening and just what will continue to happen. Scola is the personality that defines this team. "No one promised me anything, I'm just here to win".
I think you're exaggerating a bit here. Scola is a competent passer, but T-Mac is the best on the team at getting players open perimeter shots. I mean, Chuck gets the same number of assists per minute as Luis despite fewer touches.
I am talking about perimeter shots. When Luis gets the ball in the paint, especially at the FT line he gets shots on the perimeter that the defense has no chance of recovering for....Luis's timing is better than anyone else on the team. Tmac gets great shots for teamates...especially on the baseline, but not so much on the perimeter. DD
CAN YOU GUYS IMAGINE IF SPURS KEPT SCOLA they must be kicking themselves right now. I mean SCOLA, TDUNCAN, MANU, PARKER, FINLEY more championships for them
If you say so. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GHKWJ8yCqBE&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GHKWJ8yCqBE&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> And I'd be willing to bet that Chuck gets us more wide open 3-pointers than Luis, because of his ability to chase down long offensive rebounds. Hmmm ... I might look into this topic of assists on 3-pointers.
Despite the fact that Luis Scola is the best rookie, he probably will never win ROY..Unless we go undefeated all the way and Luis Scola averaging >20 pts.
I think Scola might get some votes with recent publicity the Rockets have gotten. He's currently ranked 1st in the ESPN rookie rankings .. that could be influential. I just think making a positive influence on winning is overlooked. I don't think Seattle would be any worse if Durant sat out the rest of the year.
Do you ever catch yourself just putting life on pause and then asking yourself, "Is this for real? Did we really get this guy for free?"
Yea i notice Scola and Battier have the same competitive nature on the court. Both play with same intensity and hustle. No wonder they're like really close friend off court as well...their personality and high basketball IQ are just similar....remember the "charging brothers" quote?? Yea, that's what i am talking about. These 2 plus Yao who is i think the most competitive player in the game. In other words, they hates to lose and only deals with winning and will do whatever it takes to win. I think yao and these 2 charging brothers have the same competitive personality as well. No wonder they're unbeatable. I also notice Landry is getting there in terms of hustling and defense. I was impressed with his defensive rotation and the knowledge of where he should be ...it was like he's all over the place. Rafer has the competitiveness as well but he's a little cocky.
now we have 5 hustle players: Battier, Scola, Landry, Hayes, Harris. all bigs. this is a solid group. Pistons team come to my mind.
