How do you talk about it? They spoke about his play as compared to what we gave up for him. They never mentioned him in a personal manner. I still felt uncomfortable about it b/c I could imagine someone slipping a personal jab at him. But all in all we gave 3 people up including RJ for a person who never panned out. That's a constant reminder. Why can't we talk about it being a mistake? But I think they did go overboard but thats a very thin line. the Andy Griffith comment may have been too much.
When I heard the comments last night, I actually considered writing an angry letter and trying to make a big deal out of it just in hopes of getting Clyde fired. My initial hope was that they would hire Calvin back...but I suppose they would just give the job to Bull...which would still be better than Clyde.
As I stated before the HITLER part, if you were ONLY to talk about dead people in a GREAT manner IE free from criticisms (which is what Clyde was doing last night, criticizing his PLAY on the court not his off court troubles) then hitler would be a good artist.
It is very obvious the way they were talking that they didn't realize that he was dead. It was one day of news. I'm sure it was overlooked. Seeing that their job is in the public eye, why would they intentionally make a mistake like that? They wouldn't. Swear, people today are so sensitive and so eager to jump to conclusions. Wouldn't surprise me to hear them apologize about the comments during the next telecast. Simple mistake I'm sure on their part. The dude died tragically, but doesn't change the fact that he was a bust. I think in general, he is more remembered as a Rockets mistake and less of a casualty to bad choices. Is it a person's fault for only remembering the first and forgetting the second? I'd chaulk it up to ignorance more than insensitivity.
LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would say that you guys are being too sensitive, there's far much worse things in the world to to get pissed about, it was Drexler who said it, have you ever said anything you regreted or that was in poor taste? save the feelings getting hurt for something a little more important, don't worry about it, on and on and on.... ...but looks like the classic pile on has commenced so Clyde and Bill should burn in hell for this.
Look, I get that Clyde Drexler is an idiot and he may very well have forgotten about Eddie's death this past summer. What I don't get is why nobody, not Bill, not any of the producers of the broadcast who presumably has a line into his headphone, told him to STFU and stop embarassing himself.
I heard it too and wanted to post something about it last night but I figured that the thread would end up like this. Surprisingly tasteless.
Disrespecting someone that has passed away is classless. Embarassed as a Rocket Fan and ashamed of Billl and Clyde if this happened. I don't remember hearing this during the game. I will go back and listen.
I don't see a problem at all. If they were making fun of his death, the way he died, anything like that...fine. (i.e. I disagree with it) But if they were ragging on his play and his time here and what ended up forcing him out of Houston, I have no problems. The guy is a part of this franchise's history, and announcers of that team should talk about it and be able to give their opinions on what happened. Just b/c a guy died doesn't mean you need to change your views or not express them. He died. Sucks for him, his family, his friends, and in general that he died early. Doesn't change history, doesn't change the mark he made on this franchise.
I couldnt believe what i was hearing when clyde was talking. I found it inappropriate. And like you said, I dont think Clyde had any idea he was dead or he had forgotten
Someone came up with the theory that every argument that goes on long enough will eventually result in someone bringing up Hitler. And there's an old Internet addendum to that which says the person who brings up Hitler automatically loses the argument.
Yes, it was Bill. Frankly, I'd be surprised if Clyde even knew who Andy Griffith was. And for the record, I'm not "acting like the two sodomized each other on Eddie's grave" and I don't think they should "burn in hell".... I just think it was a little inappropriate, that's all. Is it so outragous to think that?
I think Clyde didn't know or just forgot that Eddie Griffin was dead. I mean, even Clyde wouldn't be so stupid to say those things in public, would he?
