With the All-Star break coming up soon, and several discussions circulating about who should and shouldn't be participating in the various talent competitions, I thought this would be an appropriate time to ask the question... Who are the top 10 dunkers in the game today? Obviously this is pretty subjective, as the criteria isn't really defined, but I have complied my list, with comments, and am looking forward to comments/disagreements, and your own lists...Here goes... 1) Vince Carter...Pretty clearly the best, as many are conceding him to be the best dunker...ever. Combines power, lift, explosion, quickness, agility, charisma, and creativity better than anyone. In a class of his own in today's league... 2) Steve Francis...Probably has the most hops of any little man since Spud Webb...Ironically, for a small guy, is more of a power dunker than a creative one...Watching him dunk over guys seemingly twice his size is a treat...I might be a bit biased here, as Carter is the only one who seems clearly above the rest, but when in doubt, go with your guy... 3) Kobe Bryant...Not my favorite player, and frankly pretty overrated as a dunker, but his silky smooth dunks bring back memories of Jordan at times...Not nearly as explosive as the others at the top of this list, but quite creative, and like I said, smooth... 4) Baron Davis...(see Francis, except stronger and less explosive) 5) Keon Clark...Most explosive big man I've ever seen...Just incredible hops..Has to be seen to be believed..Seems to bring the ball down from the rafters...Legs like linguini, but man can this guy get up... 6) Tracy McGrady...Not as creative or flashy as others at the top, but ( with the possible exception of Clark) is probably the best dunker in traffic on the list..Ofetn goes through/over 2 or 3 guys on his way to the hoop...Incredible athlete, and very long, but not as visually appealing as a Francis or Carter... 7) Corey Maggette...Sort of a poor man's Carter...Doesn't have the same creativity, charisma, or agility, but is incredibly explosive and powerful, and can really get up... 8) Kevin Garnett...One of the most expressive, explosive dunkers in the league...Isn't creative, doesn't need to be...Two handed power jam and hang is his trademark... 9) Jason Richardson...Best of this year's class...Haven't seen him as much as the others on this list, but this kid can dunk...Probably not as good as the hype coming into this season ( no threat to Carter et al ) but an exciting dunker none the less...Should be one of the better dunkers in the league for years... 10) Stromile Swift...Closest thing to the early Rain Man, as a dunker, in the league today...Exceptional power and explosion, really rattles the rim...As yet, doesn't do enough else to get the profile, but he can power dunk with the best... Hon. Mention...Shawn Marion, Bonzi Wells, Brent Barry, Shaq, Eddie Robinson, Rasheed Wallace Thoughts, comments, alternatives...Have I missed anyone?
You missed Eddie Griffin too. If you ask me, I think that guy has some potential to be a monster dunker.
1. Carter 2. Franchise 3. Jason Richardson 4. Kobe Bryant 5. Darvin Hamm 6. Tracy McGrady 7. Baron Davis 8. Desmon Mason 9. Richard Jefferson (even though I hate him) 10. Stromile Swift

My 10 are: 1)Carter 2)Kobe 3)Baron: his dunk over KT put him this high 4)Franchise 5)TMac 6)Finley 7)Shaq: too big, otherwise would be higher 8)Garnett: ditto 9)Marion 10)Barry.
Mason is an overrated dunker. The dunk contest last year was horrible. Franchise is gonna kill Mason!
1- Vince Carter 2- Baron Davis 3- Steve Francis 4- Kobe Bryant 5- Tracy Mcgrady 6- Mike Finley 7- Ricky Davis (I think he's still on Miami, but dunking is about all he can do) 8- Kevin Garnett 9- Jason Richardson 10- Darvin Ham (He'll forever be on this lis for shattering the glass) Coming up- Gerald Wallace...we'll see how he does at the contest this year, since I really haven't seen much of him.
but heres mine #1-Vince Carter #2-Kobe Bryant #3-Steve Francis #4-Tracy McGrady #5-Baron Davis #6-Keon Clark #7-Michel Finley #8-Jonathan Bender #9-Stromile Swift #10-either Gerald Wallace or Corey Maggette Hon Mention- Shawn Marion,KG,Kenyon martin,Stack
What about Shaq? After all, he did bring the basket support down once in a game early in his career....may not be flashy, but he's going to make every dunk and he's going to make teams regret every dunk.
Shaq's the best power dunker, but that's about it. Cato's a great power dunker too, but I wouldn't put him in the top 10.
