WASHINGTON — An exhaustive review of more than 600,000 Iraqi documents that were captured after the 2003 U.S. invasion has found no evidence that Saddam Hussein's regime had any operational links with Osama bin Laden's al Qaida terrorist network.

The Pentagon-sponsored study, scheduled for release later this week, did confirm that Saddam's regime provided some support to other terrorist groups, particularly in the Middle East, U.S. officials told McClatchy. However, his security services were directed primarily against Iraqi exiles, Shiite Muslims, Kurds and others he considered enemies of his regime.

The new study of the Iraqi regime's archives found no documents indicating a "direct operational link" between Hussein's Iraq and al Qaida before the invasion, according to a U.S. official familiar with the report.

    No WMDs
    No Saddam link

The US invaded a sovereign nation under false pretence that lead to the murder of its leader and sent the country into chaos.

Saddam was obviously so crafty he was able to cover his tracks.

The Bush administration would never make an error of judgment this atrocious, would it?

You don't think there was a possibility of deliberate obfuscation to precipitate the invasion, do you?

bigtexx, Trader_J, basso, help me out here. You guys know the truth.

    Explain...

sure it did- you just weren't paying attention:

[rquoter]tonight I have a message for the brave and oppressed people of Iraq: Your enemy is not surrounding your country -- your enemy is ruling your country. (Applause.) And the day he and his regime are removed from power will be the day of your liberation. (Applause.)[/rquoter]

You do understand that democracy can be a by-product even it isn't the reason for going in. Democracy was never given as the reason for the invasion. It was talked about as a desirable byproduct, but the two things just aren't the same.

as if you actually cared about them then or now. Back in the 80's when this occurred, you were busy supporting reagan who was busy supporting Saddam. Now they are cause for convenience on a basketball message board - so you can ride your internet high horsey for brownie points. Nice!

Congratulations, it's a real shame that you already died on 9-11, or else I'd say somebody should slap you for being such a tool.

Doubtful. your retroactive support of Iraqi human rights is duly noted in any event.
