I've been called a hater, which I don't mind, but I'm going propose a question to the faithful. I'm going to put pau back in Memphis and assume Heisley never took ghb from Kupchak. We all agree these are the 4 best centers in the league right now. All except Howard are the same age pretty much. If Yao,Kaman,Howard, and Gasol names were placed in a hat and pulled out and placed on different teams, would the teams they left win more, less, or even. Example: Yao on la clipps, howard on memphis, kaman on magic and pau in houston. You can add or talk about why one guy fits better or worse. If u have league pass or u watch a lot of hoops, u probably can explain or recognize strengths and weaknesses of the 4. Let it rip.
Pau is a center? I thought he played power forward his whole career? He might be playing PF in Los Angeles right now, but that's only until Bynum comes back. Then he'll be back at his natural position.
I think I'd put them in this order: Yao/Howard/Gasol/Kamen I give Yao the nod over Howard only because he's established himself over several years. Yao really didn't play much better this year than he did last year before the injury, and if he doesn't improve next year, I think Howard will overtake him. Gasol is a much bigger scoring threat than Kamen, and a better passer, but Kamen is a more determined rebounder. Here's the thing about the Yao-Howard debate: If either of these guys ever develops that killer instinct and will to dominate opponents that Dream had -- or anything close to it -- he'll jump WAY over the other. They've both shown flashes of it from time to time. Howard dominates with strength and pure athleticism, while Yao does it with height and well-honed skill. But neither of them has yet learned to bring it night in and night out like the great ones do. If either one learns that, the contest is over.

Yao is the worst. Trade Yao! If you want to hear this answer, I give this to you. Please call Morey to trade Yao and say millions of pros fans believe Rockets would be better and win the championship without Yao.
Dude, seriously, stop asking daft questions. You are like a guy who has a beautiful girlfriend but prefers to have another girl as his girlfriend because she is better looking or better at some aspect that you seem to like. In short, you just don't know how to bloody appreciate what you have. I think the Grizzlies are regretting their criticisms of Pau for being soft, unatheletic, whatever. They got Kwame Brown, now they have to stick with him. One day, your wish may come true, and Yao may be traded to the Grizzlies for Kwame Brown.
Actually, ijust wanted to know if those guys switched teams and replaced the other guy would the team win more, less or the same. Also how would their old team fare with the replacement? Not bashing, just a thought.
NBA video game might give you the best answer. Please spend more time on playing NBA2008 instead of watching Rockets' games
First off, you should not have put Pau in this question since he is not a center and instead, have put Bynum. I have this argument plenty of times with my Laker (homer) friends and family members that are Laker fans because they drool over the fact that Bynum had a month of basketball where he put up good numbers. The question I pose to all of them is simple: How long has Bynum done it for? This same question can be posed for Howard and to a certain extent, Kaman. Let me break this down for you: Yao has IMPROVED each year and is continuing to improve some aspect of his game. He has improved each year he has been in the league and has put up the dominating numbers MUCH LONGER than any of those other guys. Do Bynum and Howard have the potential to surpass Yao? Yes. But before you go trading the bread and butter of your team, you might want to consider that many players have shown flashes of what their potential is (ie Stro Swift, Mike James, Boris Diaw) and have put up good numbers for a year. The very next year, those numbers are proven to be a fluke. Kaman is a good center, but he is not on par with the other three because he cannot be your go-to guy. He is a much better complementary player than a go to player. So would I trade Yao for Bynum or Howard? To be completely honest, I have to say NO! Bynum hasn't shown me anything and I am not going to risk a proven 22-11 player for a youngster who has shown some potential and put up good numbers for a month. Howard's number have been up this season, but I would like to see him put up those numbers for another year and then we can revisit this discussion. Howard's rebounding and shot-blocking are better than Yao's but Yao makes up for that with his offense and despite his low shot blocking numbers, Yao's defensive presence is great on defense! I do not think Howard has proved he can carry a team on offense just yet. Hope that clarifies what you were asking and puts a rest to the debate between these centers. Before you put the other three in Yao's category, they need to show me a bit more and for a longer period of time. The only knock on Yao is he has been injury-prone, but so have Kaman and Bynum. Howard on the other hand, I sometimes find myself thinking he is a bit immature still and I have questioned his work ethics from time to time.
Take Kaman out first. He is a decent center, but he is not a super-star center at this moment, and yes I watch the Clips because I live in LA. Take Pau out next, because he is back game is not in the same class as the other two. He is a very good big player, but he can be shut down one on one in the post, and post game is the gold standard to measure of the value of a center. That's why Pau cannot even be considered as a center. Howard and Yao. I will give the edge to Yao right now. As JVG put it, Yao is the most dynamic center in the league, most skilled. Yao on the post and Howard on the post, not even close in terms of impact or distortion to the game. Not even close. Yao hands down.
When Memphis was making the playoffs, pau was the center. Kaman been pretty productive this yr. Bynum hasn't done it enough. Pau has a good back to the basket game. He has the jump hooks and pivots. He showed his value when he was hurt at the beginning of last season and they were terrible.
Kaman is productive and slowly coming to be a force down low that I agree, but to put Kaman in the same league as Yao is too early. And right now, Kaman and Yao in terms winning basketball, no contest. Not only can Yao score, but also can he draw double team, kick out, and make the FT. Kaman is one to two knotches blow Yao's grade in most categories right now as a cetner. Pau's back to the basket game is not that impressive. He can be stopped by Chuck Hayes. He has only two moves basically. Not even close to what Yao can do down there.
hahaha. ya ... gotta love mutombo. he's easily become one of my favorite rocket players of all time. even if he doesn't play.
I don't think I'd read it. If he did, it'd look more like this: Yeah. I think it'd be better if he didn't.
