I would like to hear more details of what these guys are doing, because too many of our players are playing over their heads right now. Fundamental shortcomings in the players' games seem to have been overcome and vastly improved. It seems like they are not only coaching team D and team O but really getting into fundamental techniques and helping Rafer to shoot better, Scola to adapt faster to the NBA game, Landry and Scola with offensive rebounding. I think this type of coaching is one thing that took time and is now paying big dividends. Anyone with insider insight? Now just waiting on Aaron Brooks to keep improving - it will happen, I have no doubts. And I can't wait to see Harris mesh with this team and see what he can do with a few minutes here & there at first. With Landry coming back (I hope) this bench is set. I believe in this team, and said I thought they would gel by January 1st. It happened. Love 'em all - Yao heal and come back strong next year. Hopefully to a championship team.
These guys (Adelman and his assistants) are doing nothing. Need some insider insight? Since I'm an "insider", I know what really happenned. Adelman stole a page from JVG's the World Best-Seller textbook "Defense & Offense in Bakestball", then claimed that he had done the whole work on his own. With the talents in this team, the 18 winning streak is nothing, particularly, against weak teams. This team has clearly underachieved this year, nothing really impressive. The same team, with much less talent and even without Yao, achieved an impressive 52-win record, that really is something. Seems I am the only JVG lover in this board now, is there anyone still with me, where are you guys? Please show up and support the beloved JVG. I wish he long live in my heart.
Yeah I still like JVG, but your post is garbage. As much as I loved JVG for his defense, you can't argue with what the Rockets have been doing on the offensive end while still continuing to play amazing defense. Even if Adelman did take all the defensive plays from JVG, JVG could have never implemented such an offense last season.
Are you kidding me? Adelman has praised Jeff's work numerous times and has also stated how he didn't want to mess with the defensive philosophy already in place when he came in. Your claim is biased at best...Elson did say that they were running some defensive schemes that they ran in Sac town, but that's about as far from "claiming the whole work as their own" as it gets.
Adelman has more experience than JVG, he had an average 57 wins/season in Kings. He dare send out Novak/Luther/Chuck package in the 2nd qt. I bet this idea would never come out of JVG's brain.
Insider huh? And you say an 18 game winning streak is nothing? Hmm how many NBA teams you see with 18 game winning streaks? BTW, if you are an insider, then tell us how exactly Landry increased his vertical leap by 4 inches and and and...tell us exactly about Gerald Green's attitude issues.
Van Gundy would never send out novak in the middle of the 2nd quarter..Van Gundy also would never give Landry a shot unless he was really strapped for players...If van gundy was the coach i can assure you we would have never seen the emergence of landry..
If I had to pick one word to describe the new coaching, it has to be dynamic. It's not a fixed system anymore. This new coaching staff is willing to make changes, willing to adapt on the fly and make changes in the game based on what the opponents are doing. I have absolutely loved Adelman's substitution patterns and counter moves to opposing coaches. Clyde brought up an important point in last night's game. He said that the Rockets are mixing up the set plays on offense now so it's hard for opponents to zero in on one play. Predictability was a huge problem for Rockets in the past. Teams knew exactly what the Rockets were going to run. This year, it's a little harder because everyone seems to be taking some responsibility in creating some offense... 1) Battier is coming off of curls and taking jumpers or running some pick and rolls with Scola. 2) Rafer is being more agressive on pick and rolls and drives instead of just settling for wide open 3s. 3) Scola is being agressive espeically in 1st quarter to keep the defense honest. 4) Luther Head is driving more and looking for his own shots of off dribble and pop instead of just camping the 3 point line. Defense has to play all this now. Adelman is making it harder for defense by... a) Mixing it up like Clyde said, and also b) Letting the players react to what the defense gives. Reactionary system. Same school of thought as Phil Jackson. Love it. Make no mistake about it. With the games on the line ball will still be in hands of Yao or Tmac. But they dont need to do this the entire game the way that they had been doing in the past.
Well, I can't say that I know much about the coaching styles of Adelman's assistants, but I did like this excerpt from an interview with Jack Sikma before the game last night... I thought that showed what kind of attitude this team has right now. I love it.
