First of all you are wrong about the school. It IS NOT a madrassa.

"HE NEVER ATTENDED A RADICAL MUSLIM SCHOOL

CNN Reporter: I've Been to Madrassas in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and Obama's Indonesian Elementary School Is Nothing Like That. On January 22, CNN Reporter John Vause reported, "I came here to Barack Obama's elementary school in Jakarta, looking for what some are calling an Islamic Madrassa, like the ones that teach hate and violence in Pakistan and Afghanistan.. I've been to those Madrassas in Pakistan and Wolf, this school is nothing like that." [CNN, Situation Room, 1/22/07]"

To the OP, that interview was weeks ago, soon after the South Carolina primary, and no one made any issue of it, because if you watched the interview she was laughing and clearly making a joke. Things are always easier to distort or misinterpret in print/type.

I could maybe see an argument that she isn't proper or demure or subservient like your typical first lady, but thats what a lot of people like about her. she is a real person. not some stepford wife.

No offense wnes, but you are the same poster who claimed that Obama broke his word by campaigning in Fla. because of a commercial that ran there.

The truth is that the commercial was a national cable ad, that bled over into part of Fla. and in no way Obama actually campaigning in Fla. Nobody believes that it was except maybe you, or people who have a personal axe to grind and want to try and make it seem like that.

It's the same thing over again here. It was obviously a joke, and just to make sure that the especially dense folks out there understood it was a joke, she even labeled it as "just kidding".

These tactics don't paint a good picture, and they certainly aren't effective. Like I said if these kinds of nitpicky things are all that can be thrown at Obama, then he's an outstanding candidate that will have a pretty easy time running on his character, and the message that he's been putting forward this whole time.

My fellow Americans, I am pleased to tell you I just signed legislation which outlaws Russia forever. The bombing begins in five minutes.

    This is presidential material?

HA. It was soooooo funny too. I am sure that when she says crap like this as first lady, that the rest of the world will give a big  .

I ultimately don't think it's a big deal, but it isn't something that you want to see her make a habit of if she's going to be the first lady. Oh and it seems like she sticks her foot squarely in her mouth every time she is put in front of an open mic.

I thought it was kind of funny making fun of the press since they were trying so hard to elicit a cat fight type of response from her. I thought it was a good answer.

I don't really have a problem with any of her verbage so far, but I understand why people would make an issue over the proud of America stuff.

She (or any other) first lady needs to be very careful with her verbage. Every time she opens her mouth, people are going to analyze each word with a critical eye.

She, by all accounts, is a highly intelligent, very capable woman. If she were some kind of dolt, incapable of better, I could understand more. The fact is that since she is highly intelligent, she is going to be held to a higher standard. It sucks, but it is a fact of life.

To be fair people from China have also been historically racist towards whites, Indians and other East Asians.

to be fair, you have no idea what you're talking about. historically, China has very little interactions with Whites. The Chinese civiliztion is ~ 5,000 years old. it has not interracted with the whites until the 1800s.

indians, east Asians and Chinese are of the same race. how could you be racist to people of the same race ?

So that explains why the Chinese considered everyone else barbarians and referred to whites with such flattering terms as "baigue" and "gwailo" (devils).

Also have you ever heard of someone called Marco Polo? A white guy who visited China in the 13th C? Or something called the Silk Road that brought trade from China to Europe going all the way back to Roman times?

I have no idea. Since that's not what I'm doing here, I don't understand how that's even relevant.
