I am honestly mad at the way the media handles the Rockets. A 17 game win streak is incredible in professional basketball, but whenever we're mentioned on national TV theres always somebody saying "they havnt beaten anybody good" or some crap like that. The game against the Mavs they went on and on about how the mavs were gonna pull it together by the end of the season, they're just having a rough game. On ESPN's basketball page we're a side story, and the main headline a few days ago was SPURS WIN 10!!!!! lakers this lakers that, they have only won 3 more games than we have!!!! This organization deserves 20 times more respect then they're being shown.
Well, it's hard to explain how a team WITH Yao was under .500 and people were saying they have to break up YaoMac and all of a sudden WITHOUT Yao we're blowing out 7 consecutive teams and rolled of 17 in a row. So right now they are all just pinching themselves - aren't you?
Agree, the media are so stupid these days for example ; tnt over time (chuck,(the ball headed) said that the marvs goin to beat the houston the other and with out any good reason just by saiding the marvis is going to win) Houston is like the underdog like in 04 or 05 piston when they won the championship.
I'd say that it's a probably a better thing for the Rockets not getting as much attention as they should.
It sucks for them because everything the rox have done has broken all of their conventional wisdom. The better the team does, the more the paid "experts" look like they are just talking out of their ass.
amen Its been this way for a long time (as long as there has been a ESPN -style sports outlet) the biggest thing I dont get is why it matters so much to yall? I got irritated at Barkley's comments prior to the first game but it wasnt because he wasnt showing us our due respect, it was because so many think he is worth listening to when it is painfully obvious he is biased in the extreme against any team that isn't Boston, LA, Spurs, Suns or Miami. Its one thing to purposefully make outrageous comments, but to act like you have some font of knowledge others don't when you quite plainly don't look at anything but boxscores to formulate your opinion just irritates hell out of me. I can think of a dozen posters here that could do a VASTLY better job of analyzing NBA games.
it just sucks that the media is downplaying the streak by Rockets every way possible and just waiting for them to lose. "Rockets show true colors finally, ending streak" ----***hole sports media. If a17 game winning streak is no big deal, every team should have one this year.
I don't care about respect much at all, the kind BBS posters describe (no I dont think respect works "that" much with ref calls ). Last year's Rockets team had respect from all the media analysts going into the playoffs, and what did that amount to? Adelman got Coach the Month and Scola was Rookie of the Month. They got proper recognition for their efforts, thats all that matters at this point... When you dont win a playoff series in more than 11 years, you're team will receive doubts, even snubs. When you have players famous for 1st round failure, it exacerbates it even more. Its just how it is...
I'm tired of all the garbage, too. And I can imagine some of us are letting it get to us- I know I am. So, my solution is a personal boycott on the sports media. This is now on my desktop: http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/scoreboard For the next 2 weeks, this is the only site I go to- as well as ClutchFans. Along with many others, I'm just plain fed up with the complete lack of respect and faulty logic being spewed out there. The only thing that matters is the score.
watch this video please and pay attention at the end http://broadband.nba.com/cc/playa.p...ecap08_922_sasden.asx&video=blank&nbasite=nba
I am actually dissatisfied with the OVERexposure of the Rockets in the media. We need to maintain our places as sleepers! As of today we are not the sleeper of the West anymore: Utah holds that distinction. I hope the media immediately throws us under the bus when we do get that first loss (I'm hoping it won't happen till those 5 games in 7 days but it will happen eventually), because thataway we can go back to sitting pretty in the SECRET driver's seat that no one knows about. Kinda like picking up drift by tailgating an eighteen-wheeler. Or intentionally lurking behind someone in a footrace even though you should have passed them long ago at your pace, just to get them sweating. Or going into the last lap of that Gamecube Mario Kart level (the most simple one, I forgot its name) in second place just so you can pick up items to STAB the first place guy. Seriously, you never want to be in first place going into the last lap...
After the Patriots won their first Super Bowl over the Rams, everyone said it was a fluke. When they didn't make the playoffs the next season, people said "I told you so." Most people picked against them on the way to their second Super Bowl title. It wasn't until they won their third Super Bowl in 4 years that people started the current Patriots lovefest. The Spurs have won four championship in the last nine years. And people still say they aren't a dynasty because they haven't won back to back. If someone asked me what year it was we last got out of the first round, I couldn't remember. And I watch 60+ Rockets games a year. Take a look at the Hornets. People talk about CP3 as an MVP candidate, but they basically dismiss the hornets. And they still have a better record than us( at least until tonight ). The bottom line is we'll get no respect until we start making the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs. Also, if any of the other top team lost their best player, they would be dismissed, too. If Kobe blew out his knee tomorrow, nobody would give the Lakers a chance to win the title.
i really dont care about the limelight. we havent proven to anybody that were a legitimate threat in the postseason. considering what happened last year and yao going down, i see no reason why analysts would pick houston to be contenders.
How about our own damn local paper give our team some respect first? I open up the sports section this morning and the Houston Chronicle has the Rockets in one small paragraph about to fall of the front page. unbeliavable. The chronicle sports editor is obviously a big soccer/boxing fan.
