I reformatted a Dell Inspiron 6000. I have installed most of the drivers and what not from the Dell website. I look under Device Manager and I still have question marks by the following: Network Controller PCI Device PCI Modem Video Controller Video Controller (VGA Compatible) I tried to connect to the Internet but I assume since the network controller is having issues then that is the reason behind the problem. Also, when trying to install the Chipset from the Dell website I get a message stating that a specific file is needed, something called usbechi or something like that but I can never find it. Anybody have any assistance they can provide with these issues?
Does it give enough information to identify the * Network Controller * PCI Device * PCI Modem * Video Controller * Video Controller (VGA Compatible) so that you can search for the drivers on the internet and not just at the Dell website?
Did you buy the Inspiron from Dell? Dell normally sends a disk with all the drivers installs with the machine.
Did you reinstall - recover the same O/S as what was on it previously or did you install something else?
I have the same laptop...usually XP recognized my network driver...but if not I get my flash drive and go to another computer and download all the drivers from dell..at the bottom of laptop you should have a service tag number...that helps identifiying the correct drivers....
I had a hunch that is what happened. OK............is the computer able to identify the unknown devices at the Boot - BIOS level? Start here: Inspiron 6000
Is this the same computer in the following link? If it is, the link lists the components. http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/dell-inspiron-6000/4507-3121_7-31257675.html Graphics Processor / Vendor ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300 PCI Express PCI Express graphics drivers Wireless NIC Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG NIC driver
Its a fairly common problem I run into when I format my computer. All you have to do is go the Dell Website, and Support. Then go to Downloads, and search for your Inspiron 6000. Here I made it simple: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...emID=INS_PNT_6000&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid= Now just download all the missing drivers you need. Since the Inspiron can't connect to the internet itself, you will need to transfer the files from the computer you are on now to the laptop. So if you have a jump drive, you can save them and transfer it to your lapton via the USB port.
If you've gone to the site, Pun, I would think stuff like the VGA Controller would have been an sure bet. Unless somehow hardware has changed, everything listed on the support link these guys have given you should still apply to that laptop.
What is the status of this Project? Perhaps you could use a Live Linux CD to identify whatever is still missing drivers after working on the above. Somebody posted the results from using Linux on an Inspiron 6000; Inspiron 6000 and your Project is likely to be similar. LSPCI lspci is a command on Unix-like operating systems that prints detailed information about all PCI buses and devices in the system. It is based on a common portable library libpci which offers access to the PCI configuration space on a variety of operating systems. You have probably realized by now that this would have been easier if you had identified all of the system devices before wiping out the Media Center O/S.
The computer would not start up. He would start it up and then every time get a BSOD. Tried to start it in Safe Mode to no avail. Tried to revert and repair, no luck. He said go ahead and reformat.
That's kind of my problem, I'm not really sure which ones I need. I have also heard you need to install certain drivers and devices before others, is that true?
This sounds like it might be a bad XP install. Is the disc clean and scratch free? Also, is it SP2? You don't have to install certain drivers in any order, although I always start with the chipset, because that will install lots of other hardware drivers.
