What does it take for us to be considered a contender?

    Personally, I think we have to at least beat San Antonio or LA in a 7 game series before I'm convinced. They are the class of the conference....other teams like New Orleans and Utah, while very good, just don't impress me as much. I can't see either of those teams winning it all unless injuries to SA or LA open the door up.

    Can we beat SA or LA - I honestly don't know. It's so hard to judge right now. I don't know how good we are to be honest. I mean, 3 months ago when we had Yao I thought we were good but not this good, and now were are this good one can only wonder how great we'll be next year.

    But is really good enough to win a 7 game series? I don't know.

    I think we'll be considered a contender once we beat at least two contender teams (Lakers, Boston, Detroit, San Antonio, etc). Depending on how we do in about two weeks when our schedule gets tough.

    Anyone who doesn't vote that they already do isn't thinking it through. Every team from 1-9 in the West right I would say is a contender. Some just have a very very slim chance at pulling it off but if everything broke just right they could win it all. The Rockets I would put right in the middle of that group with the Lakers and Spurs having much better chances than any of the others. The fact still remains though that we are a contender.

    If we get to the WCF, we'll automatically be considered contenders.

    If we get a top 3 seed, and make it to the second round, I think we'd be elevated to contender status.

    If those scenarios don't play out, I don't think we get that label.
