Be sure to note that while violent crime is indeed lower in Canada, property crime is much higher. You don't have the liberty to protect your property in Canada, and I believe that is reflected in the property crime rate. Pick your poison.

I'm conservative for the most part, but I agree with the sentiment that someone else noted:
I don't believe that the government should be involved in preventing us from harming ourselves. God gave us free choice - why do governments try to take it away?

We have sin taxes(alcohol, tobacco), stupid taxes(lottery). I don't see why we couldn't make money and improve society through a darwinian tax which is a sin and stupid tax combo: pay society to use drugs, and quite possibly remove yourself from society at the same time.

I thought we established last year that BrianKagy, Jeff, Will, and keeley are all BBS duplicate logins for Clutch, depending on what kind of mood he's in.

That's not the way I read the stats.

    http://www.statcan.ca/english/Pgdb/State/Justice/legal02.htm
    http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/glance/viort.htm
    http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/glance/house2.htm

Note that the population of Canada is about 31,000,000.

So Canada has about 10 incidents of violent crime per 1000 people compared to something over 25 in the US, and Canada has around 40 incidents of property crime per 1000 people compared to about 100 in the US.

I'm surprised it's that close. I bet the difference in the urban crime stats is much bigger. Calgary has a population of about 1,000,000, and we had 18 homicides in 2000. I don't know the figures in Houston, but I suspect they are significantly higher than that. What is the homicide rate in Houston, btw?

Don't think I've posted enough to warrant a label yet. But since I now wear the liberal tag...must have earned it.

    Points of view:

    1. Guns: Yes

    2. Abortions: Not a governmental decision

    3. Drugs: Rehabilitate not incarcerate

    4. Death Penalty: On average it costs more to put someone to death than keep them in jail for life. If you look at it that way it doesn't make sense, however, if the crime fits the punishment of death...so be it(I.e. Dahmer).

    5. Pro Military

    6. I believe the two highest paid jobs should be Teachers and Policeman

    7. I think everyone should be given and equal chance to compete..as long as it remains a competition.

    8. I don't believe in Republicans or Demorcrats. As a matter of fact I view them as REPUBLICRATS.

    9. I believe Political Consultants are Hell Spawn

    10. I believe Half-truths are lies.

    11. I believe our governemt is corrupt...but better than it has ever been.

    12. I believe people are different, and have a right to be....we should learn to celebrate our similarities and differences. However, I believe tolerance is a judgement call.

    13. I believe in "spare the rod, spoil the child."

    14. Lastly, I believe that I am Tiger Woods...cause T.V. told me so.

I am whatever the exact opposite of The Voice of Reason is. I am fairly liberal in my daily life, but Jesus rules my thoughts and actions.

I don't think my views are for everyone, nor do I try to push them on other people. You live your life, I will live mine.
