I'm at a disadvantage. Not living in Houston, I do not have the avenues of going to different barbecue places. I have mainly relied on chains like Whitt's and Corky's (based out of Memphis). I also ate at a Red, Hot, and Blue in Alexandria, VA when I was in McLean, VA for a work-related seminar. Very good barbecue there. So, my question is what's the best barbecue that you have had in your life? Or better yet, what is your favorite barbecue place?
Hands down, the best barbeque I've ever had was my dad's. He's a native of Shiner, Texas and really takes pride in his cooking and barbequing. As far as places go, pretty much anywhere in Texas has good barbeque. I usually like going to hole in the wall places. especially in small towns. They seem to be the best to me!
My favorite is my own, but IMHO, the best place to go to get it......despite the fact that it's the popular favorite....and despite the fact that it's not "hole in the wall-ish"....is Goode Co. I also really like Hinze's BBQ, but you have to drive out to Wharton to get it.
Has anybody else ever been to Rudy's bbq in austin or San Antonio? Its kinda low class, but its damn good.
What is the actual correct spelling of "barbecue"? Is it barbeque or barbecue or something else or is it just better to use BBQ? I have always wondered about that. red - I think that I have read in other threads about saltlick's...it seems like that is a place that Rocketman95, Drewdog, TheFreak, etc. go to watch Rocket games in Austin.
Others would beg to differ on that assumption While we're on the subject of Que.......what's the best BBQ sauce? Anyone ever try Stubb's? It rocks.....
Hands down - Salt Lick, just outside of Austin. Eat in a smokehouse and bring your own beer. What could be better? Oh yeah, get the Family style and get all you can eat. It's a dry county so don't forget your cooler. Back in college, some friends and I went there with 3 cases of beer and a full Sunday of football in mind. Cut to 3 hours later. Drunk and full, they "asked us to leave". Our tables looked like a hoard of vikings invaded the place. I think they had to roll me back to the car. I don't remember, I was in a meat coma. mmmmm...Salt Lick.
I got to vote for my own as well. I've been smoking meat for 20 years now, and it's the best. But for commercial food, I like Joe's BBQ in Alvin. Hey Manny, have you ever heard of a place called "The Perfect Pig" in Nashville?
That sounds vaguely familiar. Is it located near Vanderbilt? I have heard that there are a lot of good BBQ places near that part of Nashville.
I have eaten BBQ all over this state, and I hate to be redundant, but the best damn BBQ restaurant in the world is SALTLICK!!
Don't really know for sure, just that it's near Nashville. I friend of mine quit his high level management job here in Houston to move there and open a BBQ restaurant. He was doing pretty well, last I heard. He was getting catering jobs for a lot of Nashville stars, and even got a TV spot on some TNN talk show as "caterer to the stars".
I have't eaten at the Saltlick in years. Remember it as pretty good. Do they still have Stubbs in Austin. Downtown I think. I ate there a few years ago. I have been using their BBQ sauces ever since. If you are looking for some good sauces, other than your own, Stubbs is the best. Mix some Stubbs and Dale's on some pork, mmmm. Here in Houston, Bakers is it. Their ribs are soooo good. For those in DFW, there was this good BBQ place just south of 183, west of 12. I think it was on Grauwyler. Anyone in Dallas know what I'm talking about? Overall, can't beat your own BBQ.
