Now that Yao has been injured, do all of you still follow the Rockets? Whats the general consensus of Chinese NBA fans, are they Rockets fans as well or are they now Bucks fans or even Lakers fans? I guess my point is I wanted to know if after Yao, do you still have passion and emotion for the team now that he is not playing, and do you see yourself loving and following this team even after Yao retires? Remember there is no right or wrong answer here just be honest. Thanks
I'm a rockets fan, not only ***, I still have passion and emotion for Rockets because I believe Rockets will insert into the second round in playoff this year. Next year we will reach the top.
i haven't watched a full game since. i mean, i still support the rockets. it's yao's team. but i watch the game mostly to watch him play. same goes with yi. since he hit the rookie wall, i haven't watched a full game. i'll just have the tv on while playing guitar. so ya, i'm a *** and a ***.
I think you should know by now, many chinese fans are only following the Rox because of Yao. they would quite happily to go elsewhere should Yao be on another team, not everybody but the majority I'd say. But you know what, i'm cool with that-fans hopping on and off all the time..
I think I will support rockets whether Yao is part of it, no doubt. And I hope rockets can make more wins this season, this team is really a good team, but also a team seems being cursed recent years,I mean the injuries of the two stars. But,given that rockets can't make the playoff or pass the first round this season,I still believe in these guys. I come to this forum almost everyday, even after Yao's out(although most of time,I’m a lurker,my english is just so so), not only because I want to get new informations about rockets, but also and more importantly, I enjoy being a rockets fan,I’m serious. Keep on going and good luck to you,Rockets!
Yes, I started following Houston because of Yao, and now even Yao's season is over, I still do. cos this is already a habit after following rox for several years, watching rox play, checking our standing in west conference and so on. Many Yao-only-fans when Yao joined rox now become ROX-fans.
As a Memo Okur & Jazz fan, personally I have never been truly tested on my loyalty to Utah as a team since Memo didn't get a season ending injury or get traded. However like some Chinese guys here said, you get used to following a team on a daily basis, getting up every game night with 8+ hours of time difference. It really becomes a part of your life and if you really like quality basketball you shouldn't just dump your team because your favorite player is out for the season. However this is a process that takes roughly 2-3 years. Those who relatively recently starting following Rockets would most likely disappear until the next season.
Wow why are you on this board? Did you start following the Jazz after Okur joined them? Do you understand the gravity of rooting for the Jazz? You do know they grease their butts before important games so that they can slide further down the court when they flop on their asses right? You do know that they never won a championship because there is justice in this world right?
Yao made me a fan of Rox. But now I have already been a true Rocket fan, even if Yao is injured or even traded.
I am a player fan, not an organization fan. As Jordon said, it's players won Champion, not the organization. I was a Bulls fan when I lived in Chicago area in 1990s. But I lost interests in NBA for a while because I respected no team since then. I did watch some Rockets games in the first couple of years of Yao. But I got the passion for the team only after JVG arrived. I'm a JVG's fan. I like the players with dedication and heart. I like the cinderilla story. I think 1994-1996 Rockets might not be able to defeat MJ's Bulls but is one of the greatest story of NBA champaign. I specially like this current Rocket team. Every players did their best to win and TMac and Yao, two superstars struggles their whole career before the ultimate prize come.
To be honest i was a *** win or lose i just wanted him to get his stats...but now i'm a rox fan and I just want wins and I dont' care who gives us the points... but give Yao only fans a break. This is our first 'asian' star we have at this level what else would you expect? of course we want to root for him..flip the script and say there has never been a caucasion in the NBA and the first to appear was a let down and the 2nd was a star you're telling me you wouldn't root for him to get his STATS and represent?
i am Chinese. i became a rox fan immediately after yao joined the team. i watched all the games after yao's injury. it has become a habit, part of my life of following the rox.
Quoted for emphasis. I think duteman makes a great point. We hope you remain a loyal Rocket fan for life and get to watch a long and prosperous career for Yao.
in other words: dear chinese fans, will you plz stereotype all chinese fans for my amusement. there are only 1.3 billion of you, so 5-6 ppl on this thread should suffice. then I can go on and stereotype and generalize about chinese fans for the rest of my human life based on that info. here's a couple of hints 1) if they're HERE to post in response to your thread, it's a good bet they're still following the rockets. it's a very self selecting and motivated group that logs into a messageboard in another country in another language. if they're no longer even watching the rockets why would they be hanging around here? to get news on yao? we should be hanging out on their messageboard for that 2) if they indeed DO only follow yao, instead of the team in general, they're only doing what 25 years of David Stern running the league designed... to make this a player-run league. in fact, from the league's perspective there is a "right and wrong" about this... it's the correct answer to follow the star not the team. when espn hypes a game are they talking about "Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavs" or is it the "Cleveland Cavaliers with Anderson Varejao, Ben Wallace, Devin Brown and oh yeah by the way Lebron James"? Which is the lead story: kobe scores 50 points or a team wins 15 in a row? 3) why would chinese fans turn to the lakers? 4) Y O F probably are still watching the rockets because of the winning streak. if houston starts losing and drops out of the playoff picture then both *** and casual Houston fans will turn off
I think you misunderstood the point of my thread. I did not make this thread to call out Y.O.F, nor to be negative. I made it because I was curious to know if following the Rockets on a regular basis and seeing the character, heart and passion for the game from our guys would transform Yao fans into Rockets fans. As a matter of fact this has become a very positive thread. I am happy for Yaos arrival not only from a basketball perspective, but if it were not for him, we would not have all of these new fans we have now. It does not matter what draws you to a team, what matters is if you get drawn to it, that you support it through the good times and bad. This years team is a true cinderella story, especially if we make it far in the playoffs. All of the guys on are team make it really easy to root for them. That is the beauty of the game, overnight someone can go from a Y.O.F to a CLUTCHFAN! I am very happy with the honest responses in this thread keep them coming guys. LETS GO ROCKETS!!!
