Last year, my roommate owned a modified XBox and we used XBMC to watch video files that we could transfer from our computers to the XBox's hard drive. Do you guys know of anything on the market that works like this? I do not have a HD TV, and I do not believe I can still buy the moddifed xboxes.

I'm pretty sure that the XBox 360 works in conjunction with Windows XP Media Center Edition to stream videos. I think that there's a version of Vista (ultimate?) that does the same thing.

I use a Mac, and in addition I only own the license to Vista Business.

    misleading title. :(

I think it's the first time ever that I've said: "oh, yeah I got that [whatever is on the thread title]" and then I read the OP and it's got NOTHING like what the title says. :D I thought you meant "Windows XP Media Center."

Yes, I DO have one, thanks.

What does an HDTV have to do with this?

Well, Apple TV requires an HDTV to function properly. XBMC could use an SD TV.

I bought a Phillips DV5982 dvd player a few months ago. It has a usb port that allows for DIVX playback. Thus, what I do is download episodes of The Wire, Dexter, etc..from my computer... and transfer them to my jump drive and then plug in the jump drive into the USB port on my dvd player.

The quality is pretty good and an easy way to watch DIVX files on any tv that you might own.

I got mine for about 50 bucks total from Amazon, but here is a link to it: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-DVP59...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1204661689&sr=8-1
