I still see what I saw - a good vision/system, but weak-willed as a leader. I contribute much of our winning to Yao slowly taking over the character of this team, with the backing of guys like Battier. Steve and Mike finally got tied up, muzzled, and thrown in the trunk. I do give Adelman full credit for stoking the fire in Scola and Landry. They're doing what they can with Brooks and Novak too. I never wanted Adelman fired, but wanted to see us import a leader (Kidd) from outside. Thankfully, it looks like the guys realized they had to lead themselves after wandering a little aimless without JVG's whip around. I believe McGrady will do a good job taking the reins from Yao over the next 6 weeks. Evan
What do you call holding an NBA team to 23 first half points??? No NBA team is that bad offensivelly. That was good defense. During the streak, we had many games where we held teams under 90 points. Look at our team defensive stats, and then see if Rick Adelman and Elston Turner can coach defense. They aren't as good as JVG and Tom Thibadeaux, but for a more up-tempo team, its pretty good.
With all due respect, that's wacked. During the 88-89 season, when Mike Schuler was fired, he took over Portland as interim coach and took a team with a 39-43 record to the playoffs. Weak? Given the job during the off-season, he took Portland to the Finals 2 out of the next 3 years, losing to the Pistons and the Bulls, back when the Eastern Conference was bad ass and a couple of Hall of Fame guards played for those teams. Weak? From '98 to '06, he took the Kings to the playoffs every year, a team without the players to seriously contend, IMO. Weak? His teams with the Kings never had a real superstar, yet he took them deep into the playoffs. Weak? I don't think so. He just has his own personality. How he comes across on the sidelines and in the media doesn't reflect the man as a leader. My opinion, of course.
I thought being ranked number 2 in team defense was pretty darn good. Did we have the number 1 ranked defense last year?
with every win, adelman looks more and more the best coach for this group of players. especially with yao out. we will need that motion offense to keep rolling. LANDRY LOOKED AWESOME TONIGHT AGAIN!
No? lol. Y'all are more then welcome to look; I was ALWAYS an Adelman supporter. If I ever said something about wanting him gone or thinking he was the wrong coach, I honestly don't remember it. But I'm glad people are coming around. His offense WORKS. His (yes, HIS, not JVG's) defense WORKS (as does JVG's). His Blazers and Kings were NOT coincidences. That said, I'm glad many of y'all are coming around. These Rockets are GOLDEN.
What about JVG picking up Rod Strickland from some YMCA league and Mark Jackson both of whom could barely even run? Also, let's not forget about that scrub Charlie Ward who did absolutely nothing while he was here other than collect a paycheck.
Give credit to JVG for the Rockets defense, it's still working if not better. On offense though, it used be 2 vs 5. Under Rick, it's 10 vs 5. Novak's game winner would've never happened under JVG.
REally wanna know how Adelman plans on dealing with Phoenix, LA and Orlando with their low post threats.
None of those teams has a good low post threat...not one. Phoenix - Shaq is old and seriously getting worse. Lakers - Who is their low post threat again, Gasol? Well, kinda, but hardly a beast. Orlando - Howard is far from polished on the block. The only teams with a real low post threat is San Antonio....and the Rockets when Yao is healthy.... Adelman is a very good coach....we are lucky to have him. DD
i admit i was wrong. that's not to say i dont miss jvg's one of a kind personality. part of me wouldnt be against him being solely our defensive coach, since most of our players are playing the defense he instilled in them anyway. that'd be cool. jvg still loves us Rockets. I think Adelman is a good coach that did something JVG didnt ... He experimented. And he finally experimented enough to find that landry is the real deal, scola > hayes in the starting 5, etc. I think both Adelman and JVG have their weaknesses but it'd be cool to find out if they combined, they'd make it work. but not enough credit goes to the assistant coaches. i like how they have a 3 man rotation of preparing the game plans. propz to those guys too.
regards to JVG but his time passed ... (didn't the Rockets fire his inadequate posterior?) its not his defense, certainly not his offense. Adelman has been a marvel & this season's success or failure is entirely owned by RA. youse guys that really miss the plodding, obvious, methodical pedantry, that characterizes ole man gundy's typical over coaching ... really need to find a new god. thankfully, JVG's tenure is dead ... long live RA!
These kind of comments are getting really annoying. We never had a game winning 3-pointer under JVG? Need I remind you of the shots Luther Head has hit? Scott Padgett at MSG?
hard to envision a Novak game winner under 'ole man gundy. spin as you may, he'd never see floor time in a game winning situation, under the former regime' ... Long live RA!
I don't have to "spin" anything. Your statement is provably false: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playbyplay?gameId=261214009&period=4 http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playbyplay?gameId=261220022&period=4 http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playbyplay?gameId=261226011&period=4
