Big Z has never been as skilled as Yao, never will be. These two players' games aren't based on their athleticism. Yao has never been athletic. So if Yao is as healthy as Z after his last foot injury, then Yao will be a perennial MVP candidate.

U may disagree with me, but I think they're the same player. Big Z was robbed early in his career with injuries. If u look at the curve at which Biz Z was on, its the same as Yao. Points, rebs, blks,fg% everything. I'm saying that if Big Z didn't miss 2 entire seasons early in his career, his numbers would be the same as yao numbers. Top that off, he never played with a guy like tracy either until now with lebron.

i don't know if someone else has already pointed this out...correct me if i'm wrong but big Z has NEVER played a game for his national team in the summer since he joined the NBA. that made a HUGE difference.

This is a great thread, thank you for creating it. Too bad that two people (debbie downers) made pretty idiotic posts in it...can you spot the two? ;)

I think injuries in some cases can slow a player down in the long run. I know for a fact that in Yao's autobiography he confirmed that after he broke his foot back when he was playing in the CBA his vertical took a hit. He mentioned that he was never able to jump as fast and as high as he did before the injury.

I think in terms of overall career longevity it will probably not affect yao much. I just dont for him to have what little athleticism he still has to be lost.

Not really comparable. As your stats starts with Zeke before his NBA career. But i do get optimistic by knowing that someone with the same injure can fully recover from it.

so he had surgery in january 2000 and since january 2002 he hasn't had any foot problems, but in between january 2000 and january 2002 he had some setbacks. seems like great news for the March 2010 onwards rockets.

Z's recovery is equivalent to miracle.

We have luck that none of the players is hurt like that.

Great analysis. It can be fixed, but Rockets really needs to watch Yao's minutes and training afterwards to in order to prevent it happening again.

Speculative. Perhaps Yao was just a slow learner/adapter, and Z reached his peak sooner. Z's foot issues were very problematic, happening earlier and much more often, with much less playing time, training, and weight, and now they are able to hold up post-surgery. Z was very fragile, and now he's not.

I think Yao will be good as he was as far as movement is concerned. It's not like he has a damaged tendon or ligament, or a shattered bone. His fracture isn't even a complete break, so the alignment of the bone should be fine. Bones heal back stronger when broken, and the screws will add strength. No worries here.

I kind of feel you didn't take the time to read through the iriginal post. You just picked up the first part, which indeed said the injury on Big Z was recurring, and then you rushed to the conclusion that the Rockets must rebuild now.

Pls read further more. You'll find the thread starter actually means sth esle.

I can't believe you let the rest of that post slip by you...much restraint.

I think Yao will make it back fine from this one, but don't kid yourselves, if he gets two more injuries like this, in consecutive seasons, it could be really bad. Those are the last two seasons T-Mac is signed here. Unless he resigns, we are going to have a hard time convincing a good player to sign with us instead of T-Mac if Yao Ming has had a season ending/altering injury the last 4 or 5 seasons straight.

Then that all bears the question . . . do we pre-emptive strike the other foot while he is down w/the other foot?

It probably means he gets really out of shape, but I'd be willing. (Maybe go Bruce Lee on his muscles w/the electrical stim?)
