Just curious about NBA teams going through a month of basketball without losing a game:

    1. How many teams have done it in the past?
    2. Which team was the last one to do it?

I am guessing it was either the Suns or Mavs last year during their crazy streaks, the Kobe-Shaq Lakers (although they were lazy in the regular season), or the Houston Rockets with their 15-0 start.

I have tried looking it up on Google and Yahoo, but I am not having any luck. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The Lakers had a 33-game streak. That could be 2 months, if the streak started on the right day.

I wonder, if we're able to beat Memphis tomorrow, would the Rockets have the most wins in February for any team EVER? It is a leap year so that gives an extra day to get another win...

so, far looks like the Celtics were 15-5 twice and 15-6 once in Feb for most Feb wins, back in the '60s. That's a lot of games. I doubt anyone plays that many games anymore.

    another one
Knicks 14-0 Mar '94 (same yr as our undefeated Nov)

Thanks for all the help everyone. I appreciate it.

I intentionally avoided mention this Rockets team in the opening post for that reason so a jinx should not occur in this instance. :D

Last years Suns had streaks of 15 W games twice, Mavs, Spurs also.

Almost every team that goes 15+ wins once goes undefeated in one month.

Mavs and Spurs once, not twice.

Not necessarily. 15+ wins will go through one month of time, but it can start in the middle of a month, and end in teh middle of the next. We're talking about a whole month here. :p

or ANY team that can sweep 1 opponent at the right time in our expanded NBA playoffs format.... 4 games a month sounds about right.

that's actually not the case. Most teams with 15+ streaks did not go undefeated for a month.

Out of the 16 teams who had streaks of 16 or more, only 5 went undefeated in a month. Pho's had a 15 gm streak and a 17 game streak last yr, but did not do it. The 17 game streak ended on the last game of a month.

    check this out
    http://www.nba.com/news/winning_streaks.html

You have to dig a little deeper at the data than that link, because SA's '96 streak actually did it although it doesn't look like it. They lost first game of April.

I started with that link and went to more conclusive data. I found historical monthly splits for each team. I'm pretty sure the only teams who went undefeated are listed in my posts above. Give a guy some pats on the back for the 1hr of research that took. I literally went through the month splits of every team for every season. I think I might have missed some from early incarnations of franchises, but I feel solid about the existing franchises.

it's an interesting piece of trivia. One interested part about the streak is 8 of the 12 undefeated months involved hall of fame centers.

Looks like if we win tonight we'll join the Laker's as the only team to do it twice, and the only team to do it across two generations of players.

Man, that's crazy. I'm guessing they didn't have their all-star break in February back then. Even then, 20 games in 28 days is unthinkable... Oh well, I guess we'll be up there for best winning percentage with most wins in February - that is if we're not jinxed for tonight :p

This streak doesn't matter because Jordan isn't playing and because February is the shortest month, leap year or not

BTW, if the rockets win tonight, they will be in that list as well. 13-0 by the Houston Rockets in February 2008.
