kenny smith was a great rocket. but he has no opinions on his own on that show. he let barkley boss him around like a lil puppet -> not what great true rockets do ;)

i love how the people who hate barkley and hate kenny smith always seem to watch the show where barkley and kenny smith talk for an hour.

they could be watching something on their favorite network, OXYGEN but they seem to keep it on Kenny and Charles.

um, do u watch TV? people enjoy watching make a fool out of themselves. barkley is HILARIOUS. we're not laughing WITH him, we're laughing AT him.

we like watching kenny smith b/c well, barkley makes a fool out of him many times.

or the way TNT makes a fool out of themselves with those funny editing

u can't deny it's a funny show (funniest on air) regardless of the lack of knowledge that goes on in that show.

I'm glad they're saying those things. Kind of when Barkley said the Rockets' defense was crappy and that they just walk the ball slowly up and down the court. Made the Rockets shut people down. More fuel to the fire in my opinion and they need it. We will get out of the first round this year. It's whenever you think something won't happen, it does. Just a thought.

they obviously know more than any of you guys since:
    1. was a two time nba champion point guard
    2. the other is a hall of famer and one of the best players in nba history

    vs

    1. random kids on a message board

i think its safe to say i'd take the advice of the nba players regardless of how different their vews are to the normal internet nerd.

    oh really?

barkley: the rockets defense is not top-notch. the reason their defense PPG is low is b/c they play a slow pace. (when he was asked last yr about the defense).

(last yr) - rox needs a new PG. this is their weakest link on this team.
(tonight) - rafer is a good PG. and he pushes the pace very well (and yet he still claims they're slow)

kenny (a yr ago): tmac is one of the 3-4 guys who can make the game easier for his teammates. (tonight, he said tmac makes nobody else better except himself)

    REALLY

they might know and be knowledgeable if they WATCH the games. but they don't. u don't form opinions by reading newspaper articles...

so if people truely dislike kenny and charles so much,
why don't they do something about it besides complain on an internet board?

    why don't they write TNT?

if the majority of people think Charles and Kenny's analysis is bad, then their show would not be successful.

While I agree that Kenny and Charles have inexplicably more basketball knowledge than anyone on this board, you can't automatically assume that everything they say is accurate due to said knowledge. You have to realize that Inside the NBA on TNT has humorous intentions along with serious basketball discussion. Charles, when he wants to, actually brings up really good points about certain teams and players. However, for every good point he makes, he says two or three questionable remarks for several possible reasons, one of them being showmanship. The other reason I can think of for his inane comments is the fact that even though they are "NBA analysts," they only watch perhaps one or two games a day. They follow up the rest on ESPN highlights or general trends that are going on in the NBA. Compare that to the level of knowledge that a hardcore fan has and you'll realize that absolute basketball knowledge doesn't necessarily equal excellent analysis of a singular team. If you asked me about any other team in the league, I can only give you a very superficial overview of their season that may or may not be correct. However, someone who may not know as much about basketball, but is a diehard fan, can offer greater and more accurate insight.

Charles and Kenny are NBA Analysts. The NBA has many games every night, obviously Kenny/Charles are not going to watch every single one of them.

The hardcore fan, even here, doesn't watch every single NBA game every night.

do u read the post before u respond? it's HILARIOUS. that's why that show is so successful. the things they say and do are hilarious. barkley is the funniest dude on earth.

though their analysis is pathetic, the way they do their show is extremely funny.

its just wack when they're supposedly NBA players and yet they don't know much about the NBA.

t_mac1, just to let you on a little secret, seeing as how you've only been around here for like a month or so ...

Tinman actually doesn't live in a present. He's stuck in a cruel 1997 time warp. He worships all the ex-Rockets from that era like gods. He has a 10 foot statue of Hakeem in his apartment that he burns incense to every morning. At least half his entire wardrobe consists of pajama pinstripe apparel. I'm pretty sure he has at least several tighty-whities personally autographed by Vernon Maxwell. He's also old. Really old.

In other words, don't be surprised if he shows up like clockwork in any thread criticizing Smith and Barkley, and don't waste your time trying to argue with him. :)

they know plenty about the nba and the show is funny also.
kenny was the first person who said Yao Ming was the best player on the Rockets.

Charles even mentioned that during the Steve/Cuttino days that Steve/Cat weren't the best teammates for Yao cause they never pass the ball.

Actually I think Kenny's Analysis is pretty good. It's just his sample is sometimes to small to be accurate. For instance TMac has definitely had some games this year where he was handling the ball too much and then settling for an outside jumpshot. When he does that it is accurate to call him a ballstopper. If the only games you watched of the Rockets was late November - December than you might be of the opinion that Tmac was a ballstopper because that's the way he played alot of those games.

However if you just watched almost any game since TMac has returned from his injury you would see TMac is a creator and distributor and more of a team player. T-Mac is playing within the team concept as of late and IMO looks better than ever. He absolutely makes the players around him better and he doesn't have to score 30 points to do so. So to call T-Mac a ballstopper now is a matter of ignorance of not watching the Rockets lately. But to say he has never handled the ball too much and then settled for an outside jumpshot is being inaccurate on the opposite polar of Kenny and CHarles.

It's not just Kenny and Charles, it's Magic too. Let's face it, the world as a whole cares a lot more about what they think than a bunch of scrubs on an internet forum.

I do think McGrady has changed his game up, but that's a recent development. Kenny and Charles can be excused if they haven't kept completely up to date on the Rockets.

Well the easiest way to shut these two up is to sweep the rest of this homestand and go into Dallas next week and win that game convincingly. The game is being broadcast on TNT.

What makes me laugh is when Kenny Smith tries to analyze or use analogies (Guess this is what you would call them) to explain something. Example, last night he was talking about Jason Kidd...."You can't live with someone for 47 minutes and not marry him on the 48th" when he was trying to explain why he thought Jason Kidd should have been in the game at the end insted of Jason Terry.

Yeah that analogy was a little whacked but I got the point. And they were right on so many levels. Kidd is one of the clutch players in the league and to not trust him in the end is just dumb. Especially when you just hocked the house and Devon Harris to get his services now.

Avery was just stupid not to play Kidd. In addition Kidd didn't appreciate it and it may cause unneeded friction between them. Kidd is not Harris who Avery was able to scream at all the time to get his point across. Kidd already knows more about the PG position than Avery and what he doesn't know specifically about Dallas he can pickup quickly with a simple explanation. But if he makes a mistake I can assure you he won't allow yelling from the skipper. I digress but I think the Rockets will pass Dallas this weekend!
