...the more and more i get pissed off about the gasol trade. i mean if that ridiculous deal doesn't just scream "COLLUSION," then i dont know what does. hell, they were asking for more talent for mike miller. what a crock of ****.
Yeah, it sucks pretty hard. But the reason they were asking more for Miller is because of the league wide reaction to the trade and speculation that the Grizzlies were having a fire sale
My sentiments exactly. It never should have happened and the competitive balance of the NBA was altered. This trade could go down in history.
I know some people joke about making some rules to avoid this situation. You'd figure business sense...hell, common sense, exists to avoid such lopsided, league altering trades. The worst part for me is that the Grizzlies jacked up the price for Miller after being ridiculed for the Gasol trade, with nothing to show for it. It's like selling having a fire sale on diamonds and then marking up cubic zirconias to make up for the loss. No offense to Miller, of course.
I agree with the common sentiment, however the Lakers salary is $72 million this year and $75 million next year. I mean anybody could have pulled this trade off if they wanted to. The Lakers didn't mind the luxury tax. That's called being a generous owner who cares about winning. The Rockets could have done the same thing if Les wanted to break the bank. They could have offered Bob Sura, Rafer Alston and Brooks or Landry and a couple of picks.
Do we know for sure that Jerry West had nothing to do with this deal? Is he out completely in Memphis or does he have any involvement in player moves? I'm also starting to wonder about Steve Kerr in Phoenix. He's a former Spur and basically sabotaged the Suns' season with the Shaq trade. And let's not forget P.J. Carlesimo is the coach of the Sonics and former assistant with the Spurs who just received Kurt Thomas for practically nothing(especially if they get Brent Barry back).
Gasol is soft, doesn't rebound, chokes in the clutch and plays little to no defense. As soon as the league adjusts, it'll just be another big salary on the lakers books.
Well, the more of more I think about it, it's unfair for Rockets to get Landry in the 2nd round and got Scola for VSpan, a second rounder, and essentially money.
well, reports were that several teams DID make the offer, and memphis turned down offers that were reputedly better than what the lakers had. memphis flatout made a terrible move, and should have at least sent gasol to the east instead of a conference rival, essentially cementing the Lakers as contenders for years to come and making any 'rebuilding' in memphis a moot point.
i'm a theory conspirator myself, but that's far fetched. shawn and amare had issues starting from amares rookie days. one of them had to go because of their contract and inability to get along.
How does it scream collusion? I don't understand why you'd think Memphis would help out the Lakers for the hell of it.
Perhaps a big bag of money under-the-table, the way corruption used to work? A 3 pt play the old-fashioned way.
Do you seriously believe they could not get a better offer than that for a near all-star? Be real man. It reeks of some kind of under the table deal.
doesn't anyone find it weird how all of a sudden, the Lakers and Celtics are contenders again, after so long? and after a period in the late 90s and early 00s where NBA popularity has declined? would it be weird to see David Stern step down as commissioner, and gasp- Jerry West take his place?
The move was made for financial considerations, they kept miller because he was a lot more affordable.
