Funny stuff. Could you imagine both Cassell and BJax on the court together. Call 'em the ET twins or something.
Sam Cassell has been in the NBA since 1993. He has two championship rings. He has played in 115 playoff games for five teams - and he knows he won't get to No. 116 with his current outfit, the Clippers. That is why this week stands as one of the more memorable ones in Cassell's 15-year career. He soon will know whether he will be going to the postseason with any of three teams - the Celtics among them - or whether he will close down his third year in Los Angeles April 16. According to a Clippers source, the team will announce today that it is buying out the contract of the 38-year-old guard. http://www.boston.com/sports/basket...awing_interest/
Best Idea Ever..... Cassell gets bought out and signs with Boston. He and Ray Allen give Glenn "Big Dawg" Robinson a call so he can prostitute himself to win another championship he doesn't deserve. The old "big three" united with the current "big three". "Whatchu talkin' bout boy? I did too play for the Spurs!"
[LA Times] Cassell Confirms Buyout Talks http://www.latimes.com/sports/baske...rep26feb26,1,5783606.story?ctrack=1&cset=true Is this a repost? I couldn't find anything. If we can't get Barry, it might be nice to pick up Cassell. And I think he said in the off-season that he wanted to finish up his career in Houston. Do you think he's got something left in the tank?
Yeah with the chemistry we have now, it makes no sense for the Rockets to even go after him anymore. Just hope that he doesn't get bought out, or if he does then he goes to the East and gets knocked out before the finals.
It's Official: sort of.... http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/...lt=AnWdHCCBsNwbMES437s_04u8vLYF?urn=nba,68671 Clippers set to announce Cassell buyout Tuesday, Feb 26, 2008 11:39 am EST According to a Los Angeles Clippers source, the team will announce Tuesday that it is buying out the contract of the 38-year-old guard. NBA sources indicated that the Celtics, Mavericks, and Nuggets all are prepared to make Cassell an offer once he clears waivers in 48 hours. All three teams have their biannual exceptions available to give to Cassell (a maximum of $1.83 million) while the Mavs have their full mid-level available ($5.356 million) and Denver has $2.356 of its mid-level. The Celtics have spent all of their mid-level. "I've been dealing with this for a month and it's going to come to an end soon," Cassell said Monday. "Hopefully something positive will come of it. I'll let it rest and hopefully everything will work its way out." Source: Boston Globe Related: Los Angeles Clippers
Sam is far from done. He can still be very effective for 20 minutes a night. Whoever picks him up is going to get a boost.
i will hate the Clippers forever if they don't let Sam go. Daniel Sterling, he took your team to the playoffs. your laughing stock of a franchise. you owe SAM!
um...yeah, they owe sam, so they're releasing him. he doesn't want to finish out the season for the Clippers. I don't understand why you're mad. Sam's probably ecstatic.
they have not released him. http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/articles/2008/02/27/cassell_buyout_hits_snag/ Cassell buyout hits snag Email|Print| Text size – + By Marc J. Spears Globe Staff / February 27, 2008 An NBA source said yesterday that Clippers owner Donald Sterling does not seem interested in buying out the final year of guard Sam Cassell's contract. Cassell's agent, David Falk, has given the Clippers a deadline of Saturday to complete the buyout so the 6-foot-3-inch, two-time NBA champion would be eligible for another team's postseason roster. Cassell is being paid $6.1 million this season, and is believed to be owed about one-third of that total. The NBA source said the Celtics and possibly the Nuggets, both over the salary cap, would be interested in Cassell if he is bought out prior to Saturday's deadline. Both teams could only offer a prorated amount of the veteran's minimum, around $1.2 million. Falk didn't respond to an e-mail yesterday and couldn't be reached by phone. Cassell, 38, is averaging 12.8 points and 4.7 assists this season. He has said he would have no problem backing up starting point guard Rajon Rondo if he came to Boston. Celtics general manager Danny Ainge has said he is interested in finding the "right veteran point guard." Another NBA source said free agent guard Brent Barry, who cleared waivers yesterday, is still considering Boston. Barry also is considering the Spurs, but he can't re-sign with his former team for another three weeks. The Celtics are also believed to be interested in free agent guard Flip Murray, who cleared waivers yesterday. © Copyright 2008 Globe Newspaper Company
