Filipino huh? I betcha he honed his voice through kareoke, or "videoke" as they refer to it over there.
Steve Perry should do a solo tour where he plays all the Journey hits. Then, he can hand choose the musicians he wants to replace his former bandmates. Yea...do that.
Dude that cover band is SLOPPY! Seriously..... However, this kid does have some serious pipes and from what it looks like a decent stage presence as well. Steve Perry needs to quit being such a puss and re-join the freaking band. Hell if Led Zeppelin is thinking about putting it back together why cant freaking Journey??
Isn't this what AC/DC pretty much did? They didn't find their new singer from a tribute band, but they did find a new singer that sounds almost just like Bon Scott.
Well yeah, but i've heard that Steve Perry gave them his blessing because he can't sing anymore -- something about his vocal cords. Pretty cool story really.
From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey_(band) Lead Singer Replaced Again, 2006-Present In July 2006, Steve Augeri began experiencing problems with his voice caused by a throat infection and left the band. The band replaced him with Jeff Scott Soto from Talisman, who was confirmed as the official lead singer in December 2006.[1] On June 12, 2007, Journey announced that Soto is no longer the lead singer, and said that they were looking to move in a new direction.[2] In December 2007, a new lead singer was named. A Filipino singer Arnel Pineda, from the former cover band Zoo, was hired to replace Soto. The band discovered Arnel Pineda, from Quezon City in the Philippines via YouTube, when they saw footage of him singing their songs with his band The Zoo.[3] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Perry_(musician) In August 2007, Go Kart records released GuFF's album Symphony of Voices which featured an unreleased Journey song called "I Can See It in Your Eyes" which was produced by Steve Perry. Perry also used his voice on the track. Since Journey fired singer Jeff Scott Soto in June of 2007, many fans speculated that Perry would re-join Journey. Perry denied the rumors and speculation later that month when he posted on Fanasylum.com, saying that he has "no such plans whatsoever to rejoin Journey". The speculation, however, continues.
Reading the post directly under yours, I wonder if they confused the second Steve with the original one? The story I heard was that Perry had nodes or something on his vocal cords, and couldnt sing anymore. that would be odd for two singers in the same band to come down with throat problems. Freak, considering that Journey was always Neal, Greg and Ross' band primarily, I cant see why they should quit touring as Journey after Perry was gone. They were Journey before Perry and they should be able to be Journey after he is gone. Frankly, the main reason why they should have stopped being Journey was because of everything released after Escape. just like Styx, they started out a great band, and went to crap once they started wanting to please all the girls in the audience

He didn't sound perfect... ... but that was pretty damn good. I'm impressed! I bet it'd be a great show to go to.
I am still in shock that this guy singing in a tribute band in the Phillipines gets the gig as the lead singer of Journey. That is amazing. He sounds really good on top of it... Good for him. I am interested to hear the songs from their upcoming CD. I would not mind seeing them in concert.
I love his story, that's awesome how he is now the lead singer. He didn't sound too bad. Thanks for posting the videos.

Its a great story I have seen them twice since Arnel has been the singer and the guy is incredible. If you listen to the re recorded classics with him its amazing how close to Steve Perry it sounds.
Whether or not you even like Journey*, that looks AWESOME. Yes, I like Journey. Seen them 3 times w/Perry.
