He is just so explosive right now and plays with great rhythm. Barring any injuries, he's on track to have a career on path with Horford or possibly better.
nah, man. this is just his first season and look how good he is. when he learns to handle the ball better he will instantly be twice as good as he is now. and that is not his limit either.
Landry has been amazing so far. It's pity we did not lock him up for 5 years hence we may have to pay him more now but then I think he has earned it. If he continue to improves, we would see an all star.
MANDRY! There's no loose ball he doesn't go after! With hands like vice grips, Carl will power his way to the hole every single time. If he can improve his FT clip and outside shot, WATCH OUT. He will be downright scary. Damn it's good to be a Carl Landry fan.
Carl Landry put in work against the potential ROY - Al Horford of Atlanta in the NCAA tournament last year. Dude was also a beast against Yoakim. He didn't have any help Florida only won by 5 or 7 points and I'm a Florida grad.
Everyone has talked about the things Landry does well and has demonstrated so far in his limited time. But I have a sneaking suspicion that one of the skills that he HASN'T demonstrated so far, which is a back-to-the-basket post game, is there ready to be tapped. A couple times each game Landry will get post position and look for an entry pass, only to have his teammates not give it to him. I'm cool with that because he is so good in the pick 'n roll game, why go away from that? But I think that once he is given the chance, he will show us that he is even more polished and skilled that we believe. You guys talking about him commanding too much money this offseason are scaring me. How terrible would it be to finally find the guy that can be the long term solution for your team at PF, and then have him slip away after one season?
I hope he continues to play with passion, one of the reasons he is so good is that he plays harder than almost everyone else..... With Landry, Battier and Scola playing, this team has energy guys with skills....and that is nice to have. DD
let me see, stout short pf with explosiveness sounds like a guy who ended his career here around the turn of the millinium
pgabriel now why in the world would you bring up that has been 6'6 1'2 Alabama lardass... Landry reminds me a bit of a Shawn Kemp/D-Howard mix for some reason the tenacity of D12 but the agility (somewhat) of Kemp but he really is kind of hard to gauge on who he similar to in styles of play.
You know in those horror movies, when something spooky happens, some unspeakable evil tries to seduce the innocent child in the family who moves into the haunted house, and this kid finds some kind of treasure, or cute little animal, or some amazingly cool toy, every one of which immediately sends up the warning flags because whatever it is is FAR too good to be true? You know that feeling? That's the feeling I am starting to get every time I watch this kid play. There is no WAY this young kid is already as good as he is without some kind of unutterably horrible monster lurking under the Toyota Center floor (and I am not talking about the hockey rink). Seriously though, I have been trying to think of a past player who Landry reminds me of. Kemp? No, Landry can shoot, and he already has a higher hoops IQ than Kemp ever had. And I see people coming up with other names - Malik Rose? Oh come on. What about younger players? It's a head-scratcher, because so many of the players who have had his kind of explosiveness and hops are wing players, not under-sized power forwards. The one guy who keeps coming to mind when trying to think of players with his energy, tenacity, enthusiasm and explosive assaulting of the basket is.. Barkley. Don't laugh. Barkley was much more lauded coming out of Auburn, and more bulky, but their games are starting to look increasingly fundamentally similar to me. Granted, later in his career, Sir Charles became a 'backing-it-in, backing-it-in, backing-it-in' post-up player, but when he was young, Charles was just an overwhelming force of nature on the hardwood. And I watch Landry improving seemingly every time he steps on the floor, and this ferocious intensity - look at those two 'jump-ball' calls Landry got last night, both of which the refs called prematurely, because he was actually literally RIPPING the ball away from the defenders and jamming it down - and the only guy I can think of is Chuck. Blasphemy? Probably.. after all, Landry has played, what, maybe a third of one NBA season. But still. Kid is scary good. Horror movie scary good. Waiting-for-the-other-shoe-to-drop good. So, while I am waiting for a Spielberg-ian maw of hell to open under the Rockets logo on the floor, I will still continue to marvel at this kid, and wonder just when he is going to come back down to earth.
Antonio Mcdyess at best, Kenny Thomas at worst......... He does not have the 1 on 1 game that elite PF's have.....
