I don't mean just as a person. He just looks crazy while he's playing. The guy has serious talent, no question. But, does anyone look as nutty as him while doing it? I mean is hair is flying all over, he dribbles really low to the ground and he flings his arms and legs all over the place when he shoots. Talk about unorthodox.
If there be any chicks up on dis here messig bored, puhleeeze explain how Steve Nash be a heartthrob sex symbol in Canada like I be hearin
Jeff, You're right, he looks crazy and plays like a man possessed. What you saw tonite is what he brings every nite. He only knows one speed as far as effort, and that's full bore. He is a consummate point guard, fearless, and may be the smartest player in the league. He is Stockton without the dirty stuff, and always wants to take the shot when the game is on the line. Dallas Rocket
Sounds like an accurate description of Jeff playing basketball (if you slowed down the speed)...except Nash gets paid millions, of course.
The hair … well, see, it gets cold up here in the winter. Hair keeps the head warm. This whole shaving the lid thing is pretty odd to me. It grows there for a reason, ya know. Why fight it?
That is simply hilarious! By the way, I'm getting ten's now from the Heights Playground League as long as I agree never to play basketball on their courts again. I will spare you the ugly story.
Francis has the instincts of a forward: he apparently loves to rebound and take it to the hole, sometimes over and through double and triple teams. Doesn't seem like he is even thinking of kicking it out. Nash is more the consumate point guard. No disrespect to Steve's incredible talent, but in some ways he seems to be at the wrong positon. I know that opinion is shared by other members of the board. Also, based of Griffin's post game comments, it sounded like he wanted the ball in crunch time and was disappointed that he didn't get it.
... and about Nash's flailing. Well, have you ever tried to play basketball on ice? Those cuts and crossovers can give you some pretty odd ticks. I'm just kidding. He's from Victoria. He hardly knows what snow is. And about him being a sex symbol. Our national media up here is mostly based in Toronto and they don't pay much attention to guys from the west. I've seen almost as much on Magloire (from Toronto) as I have on Nash recently. Todd MaCullough gets pretty much ignored too … but we get a ton of Raptors news, oh boy!
The thing is, is that Nash wasn't a star player when he first arrived in the league. He was like the 3rd backup on the sun's team behind Kevin Johnson and Kidd. Every year he improved his game. Damn, this guy is good.
ok I'm reposting my post that seems to have disappeared. Nash is an all-star. Francis is still better, he just doesn't have a Dirk to pass too. Althought Nash fits with the Mavericks better than prolly any PG in the league. Don't spit on Francis. He is the Mac Daddy! He is the Rockets Man Main... Don't look at Nash and change your mind. He fits with the Mavs. Not the Rockets.. Francis is one of the best in the league. don't forget it.... Nash is the best PG for the Mavericks... Francis is one of (if not the best) in the league!
Nash I think the biggest change in him, the single most glaring factor that has propelled him into the spotlight, was the acceptance by Nelson and Nelson of his abilities and allowing him to take them to the wall at will. Up until mid to late last year he was never given the rock at crucial times. Never given the responsibility to decide his game time options. Never given the authority to control the game his way. Prior to this he was given few if any, leeway despite being, at the very least, a passable starting PG in the game. As Dallas Rocket says he does look like Stockton, but he doesn’t get involved in any peripheral stuff just grinds at you possession after possession. He shoots fearlessly, and he has as good a pinpoint pass as Stockton ever had. Actually that whole damn team are in sync. If you watched last nights game or caught several others through the season, you can tell that Nash, Dirk, Finley and Howard all gel together very, very well. Overall, it was a fun game to watch and a nice effort last night, from both the teams. Why we lost ... We lost on lack of finish (as Calvin pointed out) and execution(as I continue to maintain). Slam banging a simple layup may look good, but only if it's successful. If you fail, not once but on several occasions, it looks just plain stupid. When not executing at the foul line, you not only lose the points, it makes a team come at you at anytime. They have no fear of your ability to make them pay for their aggessiveness. The Rockets had all the opportuinty that any coach would want a team to have to win the game. They had their shots, but did not make them at a few key, crucial moments. As far as turnovers go: I can live with turnovers if the end result is a stepped up game, or an attempt at increasing the team tempo. But silly dribbles off the feet, miscued passes behind the back, inept running, and double-clutching the ball get tired real fast when we lose because of it. PS: One of the best games for Cato I have seen this year. He was effective inside making Dallas change shots repeatedly, had key rebounds, freebies were okay and his "box-out-cover-up-outlet" was flawless.
Actually Nellie has always wanted Nash to take control of games at the end, and during crucial points during games. The biggest change in Nash the past couple of years is that he has finally started taking those shots. Nellie used to bench Nash because for some reason he wouldn't take control of the game, and consistently passed up open jumpers. Nash has actually credited this years scoring surge to Hardaway. Hardaway has shown Nash how successful he can be if he takes that clutch shot. Hardaway's confidence in his shot has let to Nash's confidence in his own shot. Nellie's coaching or sceme isn't the main reason Nash was as good as he has been, it's strictly about confidence in himself. The olympics were a big help to Nash in this area.
While we're on it, how many of you remember Nash from either the Olympics, or at Santa CLara? Talk about carrying a team from the point guard position...I was just never sure he'd be able to do it at such a high level against NBA competition...I'll go into it more later, but one of my good friends played against Nash often in High School...
