Hello all, Dark days, indeed. But many times, the best victories are borne from the deepest sorrows.... not that that makes today any less painful. Here's my column: http://blogs.houstonpress.com/ballz/2008/02/a_grief_observed_yao_mings_inj.php More to come for sure. Thanks for reading. JCF
Rocket player, time for you to step up We have all the rookies and let's play game by game. We never know what would happen and maybe by the time we reach playoff, Yao is recovered
Jason what a great article man. It gave me a lump in my throat. Your damn right, I doubt guys like Battier, Hayes, Landry or Scola are going to throw in the towel. They will fight till the end and leave nothing on the court.
We need group therapy... lets all talk this out and let our anger out on something. Anything. I'm over the denial phase already.
I believe in Tracy and Co. if they can hold on to their spot and make it to the post season... March is going to be brutal. Uncle Deke, show us what you got big fella, b/c you're getting in the game tonight. I can't imagine how Yao feels, I bet he cried. Poor guy....
Good job man. I admire great writers like you. I was gonna be a journalism major in hopes of writing about sports, but it's just too difficult a road with terrific cutthroat competition like yourself out there.
"Keep your chin up, make the playoffs and steal a round, and redemption is yours, T-Mac. It’s a ridiculously tall order in the stacked Western Conference, I know. But if resiliency is the order of the day, I’m willing to bet teammates like Shane Battier, Rafer Alston, Luis Scola and Carl Landry have plenty to spare." Couldn't have said it any better. That's the goal for this team now. A title is almost certainly out of the question. So make it about shutting up the skeptics who always dog this team. Make the playoffs in a ridiculously loaded Western Conference and take your best shot against whomever you go up against in Round 1. At the end of the day, you'll be able to hold your heads high and know you gave it everything you had.
Nu, you're a writer - philosopher? The article that should never have had to be written. Perhaps (over time?) you will be able to answer the following questions: 1 Will the Chinese National Team require Yao's participation even if it were to threaten his career (or shorten it substantially)? 2 Could this inhury have been 'side-stepped', as in: relating to playing time, summer commitments, earlier treatment etc? 3 If the Rox fade out of the p/o picture or flame in them does this give TMac 'a pass'?
I'll definitely do my best to find an answer to question #1. Obviously, it's impossible to know today, but it's certainly relevant to fans of both the Rockets and the Chinese national team. Thanks for reading. JCF
