A writer for the basketball publication is doing a feature piece on the Rockets' young forward, with the angle that Griffin should have been the top pick in the draft, and the Rockets' good fortune in landing him.

According to the interview at halftime of tonight's game, SLAM! considered Griffin clearly the best prospect in this year's draft, and was surprised both that he dropped to 7th, and that he was thereafter traded. They think he'll develop into a Nowitzki-type offensive threat, with the bonus that he'll excell defensively. The reporter says that he is mature well beyond his years, and the reason he feels he dropped in the draft was the result of poor workouts with the top teams. However, these workouts coincided with Eddie's brother's death, and Griffin was understandably not very focused on basketball at the time...

All in all, a great deal of publicity, all positive, should result from this article for Griff, and we are looking good...

I forgot to mention that, in the opinion of the SLAM! writer, and the magazine's staff, the trade was a steal. He said that, with all respect to the players involved, none of the three traded for Griff have the potential to make anywhere near the impact that Eddie does...

Not surprising, since EG fits the basic SLAM profile: (1) from a major urban center (2) young (3) crazy ups and dunking ability (4) rocks a headband.

I always read that magazine. I hope he makes the cover someday.

But don't put too much stock in SLAM's prediction skills -- they had a cover a few years back with Stephon Marbury, Jayson Williams, Keith Van Horn and the rest of the late 90's Nets touting them as a championship contender. Injuries or not, you knew from jump street that that wasn't going to happen.

I don't care if they're just touting him because he's one of their homeboys. Remember Emmitt Smith? What was he, 17th in that draft? I'm telling you right now that at pick #7 we've bagged our own Emmitt Smith.

P.S. You people who are talking about trading Francis are CRACKERS. We now have a multitalented gamebreaking guard and a multitalented gamebreaking forward around whom to build our championship team. Anybody who gives up either of these guys for less than an equivalent superstar -- as opposed to two or three pretty good players -- is NUTS.

I agree 100 %. We now have two potential franchise players in Francis and Griffin, plus two very good NBA players in Mobley and Taylor, plus a few good roleplayers in Thomas, Moochie, Morris, Torres. I think we should try to build around Francis, Mobley and Griffin - if you could add a very good SF like Rashard Lewis or a good C like Raef LaFrentz to this and the players mature and stop making stupid mistakes, I think this team has the potential to make a championship run in a couple of years.

Thats why Slam is the only magazine that I subscribe to. The rest of the mags out there are against the Rockets. You know a mag is good when Kenny Smith writes articles for it.

I've been a SLAM subscriber for 3 years. That mag is tight. And Nima Zarabbi is a good writer. I'm so excited about the story!! Finally, Eddie will get his much-deserved props.

Oh yeah...Will...THANK YOU. That's what I've been saying all along.

I know Grif's brother died, but how did he die? Was he murdered or did he die of cancer or something.
