I'm probably crazy, but I love listening to those two guys do a game.... to me, just hearing their voices makes me think of big game pro football. And boy have they milked their voices to pitch products. I was upset to hear they were no longer together.

I never really cared for Summeral until recently when I heard an interview with him on a Dallas sports radio station. The man is SO much more intelligent and witty than he seems on his NFL broadcasts. I think that Madden's constant blathering and senility are masking the guy who really SHOULD be talking.

I liked them too. Summerall was a good announcer and Madden, well he's Madden.

Madden rules, he is by far the best sports annoucer of the last 20 years.

I like Madden's energy but he doesn't add much to my insights into the game.

Summerall, on the other hand, had a way of capturing things in one short sentence or sound bite.....and then knowing when to remain silent. That is his brilliance.

Summerall is good... though he's been declining a bit of late. Getting old, perhaps.

Madden's senile. Listening to him babble about nothing reminds me of volunteering at a nursing home. It's almost as bad as Lee (throwing at the other teams' best corner is a great strategy!) Corso.

I met Madden once though, and he was nice enough in person.

Amen to that. This is my main gripe with these sportscasters. They feel like they must fill every second with blather. Some even feel the need to think up catch phrases and when to use them.

Certain eople really like the guy, but the one I mute quickest is Dick Enbert. Not a minute goes by without him trying to throw an "OH MY" in. Hell, I even saw some interview he did on ESPN Classic talking about plays that for which he scripted his "OH MY" schtick.

    "It's the 'I didn't do it!' kid!"

    EDIT:

LMAO, I have been quite sleep deprived lately and I went off on a huge tangent that led nowhere.

Madden and Summerall evoke many memories from growing up. They always seemed to be doing the late game from San Francisco for some reason. I'm not terribly saddened to see them split; some kind of retirement was imminent and their performances (as well as their health) have been slipping over the last few years.

I can't stand Madden, and the fact that they are together is probably what has lead to my not liking Summerall.

He does seem bad (Summerall)...did anyone catch the whole Martz-hotel story during the Packers game on Sunday? He confused himself and everyone else on whether Martz made the pre-game hotel stay mandatory or voluntary.

    Once again:

    THIS SUCKS.

I have a friend who has already demanded that Summerall preside over his funeral, and my friend is 21.
