Okay, so it is a long story, but let me shorten it to state that my car is sitting in the parking lot of a junior high where me and some other ClutchFanners play b-ball every week. My gear shift in my car decided it would be a good time to no longer work and my vehicle won't shift out of Park. Everything else works fine. Well, I got a ride home, but I will need to have it towed somewhere tomorrow and get it repaired, but I don't live anywhere near that area so I have no idea who to have it towed to. Can people recommend a good, honest mechanic somewhere close by so my towing charge won't be hugely exhorbitant? I appreciate any help people can provide.

I have taken my car to Memorial Car Care over the last couple of years. They are at Memorial and 610 (next to the Chevron). Mike over there has always gotten my car fixed quickly, and tries to keep costs down. He has never tried to sell me something I didn't need.

In fact, Mike once told me that I needed A, B, and C done which would cost $X, but that I could safely get away with having just A done. He recommended A and B, but B wasn't absolutely necessary. I had A done, and B a month later.

    They are great.

Oh, and Mike can have a towing service tow your car in. I think it costs $80 or so. If you can have it towed cheaper yourself, he'll welcome that too.

I take mine down the street from my house at the Good Year on Chimney Rock and Westheimer... they take very good care of my vehicle and are very honest (i have a very finicky sports car that is very high maintenance and they always tell me what i need to do to for upkeep and what I can get away with doing less often or not doing at all- meaning they don't make a dime off of me in the latter)... i highly recommend them.

No problem. I hope you have as good an experience with them as I have. He was recommended to me by my law partner, who has had good experiences with them too.
