Did you think Scola would be this good? I'm not surprised by his talents because I saw his play against the U.S. I thought he played very well againts U.S. I am surprise at how good Landry is though!
I thought he was going to be good and be a decent bench player, but I never thought he'd be a starter and have this team winning
I'd figure Scola would be good, but I didn't think his post moves (all of his spin arounds, pump fakes, underhanded shots, etc.) would be so polished. The only thing I would rag on him about is dunking, because every now and then he'll miss a point blank shot. Landry, of course, has been a big surprise for me.
you hit it right on the head. i thought he'd be a decent hustle player like oberto with a little bit of offense. but his ability to be a real option on with the ball is a nice surprise. dunking would be nice since he wouldn't stand a chance at missing a layup or getting blocked but he's good enough to start for a lot of teams. landry, man, i thought this guy would be cut before the season started. now i tihnk he could start for us by next year.
I knew Scola would be good, those damn argentines are hustlers on the basketball court and I had heard he could be better than Ginobli and that he was 6-9. Then I saw him own that FIBA tournament this summer, how could you not expect him to be starting for an NBA team. I had no idea about Landry though. Great steal, our scouting recently has been great.
Not surprised at how good Scola is playing. He was very good in FIBA tournament I think... Had a very good game against USA and even won MVP. I like Scola's all around game... just wish he could shoot better FT %. And sometime he misses easy layup.. .he should dunk more often. I'm really really surprised about Carl Landry. I had no idea this guy was going to be so good. I was wondering why the Rockets didn't go after Big Baby Glen Davis... but now im glad they didn't.
I figured he would be a starter...some time next season. This season I thought he would need half the season to adjust but then would give us 12/7 a night in around 26-28 minutes a game off of the bench. Defensively, he has taken longer to adjust than I thought. I think he will still end up giving us the 12/7 a night as an average for the next 30 games but that doesn't really tell the story of how effective he is. I hate to compare two very different players but he is similar to Bob Sura in that his contribution is almost always much more than his stats tell us.
Not really, I knew he would get acclamated to the NBA game fairly quick. I watched him a lot on NBA TV in the offseason, I had to get my BB fix somehow so I would watch alot of Eurolegue play (I even watched full WNBA games!!I know,I know!) Between him and Landry(And the Chuckster for D) we're pretty much set at the 4.
Scola was the MVP of the Spanish league. That is one of the best leagues in Europe. He plays for the Argentine team that won the Gold Medal. He has long been regarded as the best player outside the NBA. It was his early adjustment problems that had me second guessing his effectiveness in the NBA - second guessing his ability to match up with the added quickness of the NBA. You know like all of those good college players who can never adapt to the speed of the NBA. I wondered if Scola would be the Europe Style Argentine version of that!!! Scola has had hustle since day 1 but he was getting quick and silly fouls. But now he is simply doing it all, he is playing like a veteran -- of the NBA. Now like someone stated, I wanted Landry to go to Europe and develop there. I was mad that he told the Rockets that if they didn't want him playing in the NBA they should not have drafted him. Essentially I think he forced the Rockets hands. He forced them to sign him and not ship him off to Europe. And because of that the Rockets had to let Mike Harris or another player go. How unselfish of Landry, No? Good going Carl, you proved you belong in the NBA!!! And the Rockets fans thank you!!!
I knew he would be good, but I am surprised how quickly he has integrated into the rocket offense...good post moves, hustle and rebounds. Needs to dunk a bit more. Landry...big surprise..love it.
Honestly, I'm not surprised by his scoring at all. I'm pleasantly surprised to see his improvement on the boards. He still needs to improve on defensive rotations, staying out of foul trouble and making free throws. His jumper is a bit better than I expected but he still needs to get better at it. I thought he would dunk a little more than he does, maybe we will see some more of it after some time. What I really like is his high basketball IQ and his ability to cut to the basket and his passing from the high post. It would be interesting to see him become a go to guy on offense when he can exploit mismatches at times. I feel he will get even better in the off season and Landry will as well.
scola is no surprise to me. i had watched quite some of his play before he became a rocket. the real surprise is landry though. and now some are worrying how are we gonna lock him up with a multi-year deal after this year. with a combination of scola and landry, our 4 position now is a headache for a lot of teams. there's no apparent drop-off between the 2, and they both like an energizer bunny.
I would be lying if I said I am not surprised by Scola's production as of late. I expected him to be a good complementary player coming off the bench during his first year, but right now, he is ready to contrubute 12 and 7 every night. The four spot was arguably our weakest spot last season, now with Scola and Landry, an absolute beast in a small package, we have one of the strongest PF tandems in the league, and both are rookies! It's good to be a Rockets fan these days.
