What's sad about this article is that it so brutally exposes Tmac for what he's been this season: A poor man's Manu Ginobili.

Never thought I'd say that, but dang...

Yeah, Scola has the tools to be that consistent third scorer. He's got the best skills since Charles Barkley.

I'm not buying the big three argument. It's bunk. A stronger argument is championship teams have one unstoppable force (like Jordan or Hakeem - neither of which had a "big three") and surrounded by above average role players. first, you gotta have your #1 guy.

Only the recent team to break that mold is the Pistons but thats only cause their entire starting five were near all-star qaulity.

Big 3 is a garbage theory ...there's many exceptions to it. For example, once the Rockets added a true big 3 in Barkley, they dropped off. Why? Cause no one player on that team was capable of taking over games anymore.

Thats why Dallas won't win cause Dirk is soft. They lost in the finals, why? Cause Wade took over and Dirk was soft.

The Rockets won in 94 why? Dream + great role players.

    Bulls.

    Spurs.

    Lakers ...of old or recent.

    Big 3 theory is crap.

I agree with you. What do you think about the 2 and a half man theory.

    1 + 1 + . 5 = 2.5

    I am plagiarizing Clutch. Sorry

The sample is way too small. The Celtics won without Garnett. Once Garnett got back they lost 3 games in a row. Does that mean that they play better without Garnett?

Anybody can beat anybody on any given night. The Rockets can play well the first 3 quarters without Tmac, but we lost some close games without him. When Tmac plays and we lead after 3 quarters, our record is impeccable. He's a good closer

in terms of who is determinate in Ws and Ls the writer is correct. Alston is the big 3. if he plays big houston usually wins, if he plays badly it has the opposite affect.

battier or scola can have bad nights, doesn't mean the team is likely to win or lose.

another candidate might be "player X" as long as SOMEONE steps up big Houston wins... could be different players night to night. this is actually the most accurate assessment of Houston's fortunes but seeing as his entire article is trying to pigeonhole a "Big Three" for each team that would be contrary to what he's trying to say in the article

Rafer hating at its best (or worst). Only Rafer can be responsible for the Rockets losing. Scola can not.

Until they loose, noone has that responsibility!! :D

I really like what I'm seeing in the Rockets now. If you talk BIG 3, then it's Yao, TMac & Rafer-right now. If one of them falters, someone else steps it up. The rest of the rotation is also playing well. Let's face it, we're playing the best basketbll in the NBA right now. Hope it continues.

scola does not run the point.

alston game per game takes the most shots outside of tmac and yao.

    so yeah

Therein lies Houston's eventual playoff demise. It's as certain as death and taxes.

Right now our 3rd is Rafer. It is my hope that sooner rather than later, Scola can be that 3rd guy and make Rafer the 4th or 5th guy.

When our "Big Three" is available all game, I believe we are 28-7 this year (and that includes one loss against Dallas when T-Mac was playing on one leg). And we are 19-1 with the "big three" since 12/5.

I think at this point the differences between advancing or not will come down to coaching.

And Phil Jackson is a master at that.

Teams are so close, but I can see how PJ will find a way to exploit some of our weaknesses in a 7 game series.

...hence the arrival of Bobby Jackson. ;)

    Keep hope alive, man.
