The only thing I ever really liked from Luthers was the onion roll thingy and their cheeseburgers.

You don't know how lucky you are. Living in NY and now in LA it is impossible to get quality BBQ.

Luther's is better than the best bbq here in LA. and the medium bbq here in LA is better than the best in NY except for one place in Queens.

I didn't like Luther's when I lived in Houston, but now I would love it to be able to drive through a place and come home with decent BBQ.

I know. In 2005 they only had 6 locations (not exactly widespread in houston). Since then they have added 14 more locations - occupying many former Luther's locations. Hence my question.

This is speaking strictly on my experiences at the Clear Lake area Luthers/Pappas, but it was great as Luthers and one Pappas bought them and changed them over it has really gone downhill.

It is a nice place to visit if you are traveling through the area but not worth making a detour for.

Yeah, I meant the one in Houston. Right now I go to Goode Co. for Barbecue. Is there a better place in town?

I haven't been there in about 5 years & had actually kinda forgotten about it...was watching Tony Bourdain on the travel chan & he was doing a KC/Tex/NC bbq tour. His Texas stop was Burns'. I have to go back there soon.

Yes. Growing up, Goode Co was my favorite BBQ, but I think that Luling City is better. Better brisket (though don't order a chopped beef sandwich, order sliced) and their sauce is phenominal and so is the sausage. The sides are not great and it's a bit expensive, but man...it is great.

I hate the sauce at Pappas. Rudy's is great for a chain

A friend from work told me about Burns' originally. It was her quick response to me saying Thelma's was the best in Houston. I saw that episode of A Cook's Tour but forgot all about Burns' until this thread.

Anyone remember "The Feed Store"? They had one in Spring and one in The Woodlands. That was my favorite place to go as a kid. The chicken fried steak and huge baked potatoes were awesome.
