My dream car is this: though what I actually drive is similar to this: I'd never be able to trade up my Isuzu Rodeo for a McLauren, but a man can dream, right? I loved the '94 - '98 Pontiac Grand Am GT, and was fortunate enough to own one. I got so many speeding tickets, police along the I-35 corridor knew me by name. (Wrecked it by hitting one of two cows on a country road in San Marcos a few years ago. ) What are your favorite cars? Have you owned your favorite car(s)?
I currently drive a 1997 Honda Accord Special Edition with mmmm approximately 53,000 miles on it. Bought it used in 1999 and just passed the halfway point in the payment book. I really like it. It's been very dependable so far aside from having the freon recharged twice. I spent the prior eight years beating the hell out of a 1990 Nissan Sentra. That poor thing. Compared to it, the Accord was like driving a damned Ferrari when I first got it. Anyway, you asked about dream cars. Two years after the Accord's paid off, I am buying (for my 31st birthday present)... After that, probably eight to ten years down the road, two words: "Por" "sche" I really like the Boxster, and you know, those cars are actually not as expensive as you might think. Of course the Porsche is probably a pipe dream since I'll end up buying a house between now and then. Wife, kids, house-- that'll probably put an end to the Porsche dream.
My dream car was always this: Cars don't seem as important to me as they once were. If it drives and has A/C then I'm all good.
I am lucky enough to have almost my dream car/truck. I got a huge 2001 Dodge ram diesel. I wemt for the huge engine with over 400lbs of torque. Its six speed and fun to drive. I got every option I could except 4wd. 40k with 4wd was just too much for me. My dream auto would be a top of the line Range Rover. Once you drive a truck, you never want to go back to a car.
No pics, but I've got my dream car: 1993 Mustang GT 5.0 liter engine 5 - speed trans. I bought it in 1994, the summer before I left for college, planning to keep it forever and add on a bunch of go-fast goodies whenever I could afford to do so. That time is near. Very near. I've always wanted 300 horses to the rear wheels, and the suspension to out-handle any import on the road. GT-40 long block, here I come.
I'm pretty sure the McLaren F1 isn't street legal in the United States, but it is a nice car. My dream car is a 1968 Mustang, oddly similar to the car I drive now.
My dream car is a GMC Typhoon. Only made 2 years in the early nineties, its the ultimate SUV. Its a Jimmy body, but its lower and does 0-60 in 5.3 sec. Picture will be coming up shortly.
My dream car was always a Porsche 911 Carrera Turbo. However, a more affordable dream car for me (in a couple of years) will be a BMW or a Lexus. But it will be a while because I'm pretty happy with my '97 Maxima SE. Hell, I may just buy a brand new Maxima when it's time. 260 HP (and maybe even more) is more than enough for me.
btw, I'm not into cars so it might be a dumb question but does anyone know why the Cadillac Escalade costs like 15k more than its sister SUV the GMC Yukon Denali. The features are pretty much identical and I bet they're made at the same GM factory. Is it the name Cadillac?
that and the Caddie "gizmos". I read the story at edmunds.com. I couldn't tell you where it is now on there, but there is an article somewhere on the site talking about how GM does this with many of their cars. --Deji
By "The features are pretty much identical," are you including engine specs? I'd imagine that the Cadillac come with some variation of the NorthStar engine found in the Cadillac cars. I'm not a GM man, but I think the NorthStar engine is exclusive to Cadillac, which would account for the price difference.
Manny - I want to see the new Maxima when it comes out. It's gonna take a lot to beat the new Altima, which I think is badass. Deji is right about the Escalade...I'm sure every high-tech item available is in it.
The CLK-GTR, carrying a price tag in the area of $1,000,000, was created by HWA with a reputation of being the ultimate Supercar with indescribable performance. The CLK-GTR was created in order for Mercedes to race in the GT series. FIA-GT rules specify that a road legal car, similar to the road race version, must be built to FIA specifications, and be available to the commercial market. Their road race version was raced in the 98 FIA GT championship, 1998 Le Mans, 1999 Le Mans, and various WSC championship rounds in the US.
You are a wise man. I applaud you. That may very well be my next car... either that or a G35. NISSAN FOR LIFE!!! (unless I get that BMW 5 series... )
It is street legal and was selling for approximately $1,000,000 here. There was a guy driving it in Dallas as his daily driver. It's my ultimate super car... If you want a cheaper "super car", get a Viper and run on over to Hennessey Motorsports in Houston. For about another $60k they can have that Viper doing 0-60 in an estimated 2.4 seconds (no, that's not a typo). This is the twin turbo Venom package for the Viper that puts about 830 hp under the hood. Quarter-mile time was something like 10sec@135mph.... I believe MotorTrend did a 9.99 1/4 with the thing. Unreal for anything but a butchered/Frankensteined Rustang or piece of crap Civic on steroids. Top speed is estimated at around 230mph. In straight-line acceleration, it can essentially spank any car out there short of something rocket-propelled. All this and it's street-legal. Hey Lynus, over 700 hp to the rear wheels on the dyno. Of course the car and mods would end up costing you around $120-$150k. Hehe.
The new Maxima should be out sometime next year (early to middle). There are all kinds of rumors as to what it will look like. Some say it will be a bigger sedan that tries to compete with the likes of a Toyota Avalon. Others say it will be a sporty car more like a 350 Z. But then why have a 350 Z? I don't know. Nissan has stated that the next Max will be based on a stretched Altima. I have no idea if I heard that right, but holy cow, that would be a whale-sized car. My personal opinion is that the next Maxima will be a bigger sedan with decent performance. I can't seem them building a car that goes head-to-head with the 350 Z in terms of performance... They can't go backwards, either since the Altima is probably the best bang-for-the-buck car you can buy that is also reliable (with that awesome VQ engine). Anybody for a RWD or 4WD Maxima? Oh yeah!
