sorry but yes, ive been saying that since seeing his first couple games at USC im just not impressed eric gordon is like lightyears ahead of him, but who knows college and the nba are different maybe he might be better in the nba. who knows
I wouldn't call him a fraud. Overrated? Yeah, a little. He's a chucker. I've seen about 5-6 USC games this year and you certainly don't need to tell him to shoot twice. He's also pretty mistake prone. I guess you'll have that though given that he's a freshman. You also get that vibe that he's a "hot shot" and why shouldn't he be? He's basically a celebrity. People have been worshiping him since he was in 6th grade. He plays pickup games against NBA players regularly. The guy has got it all. P.S. How long before we're hearing about magical SUV's and mysterious money that somehow found it's way into his possession?
He's like Chase Budinger in my opinion-loads of athleticism but extremely soft. He hardly ever runs into contact to draw the foul. If you look at his jumpshots, its good, but he tends to lean away from the defender. He's not as unselfish as most people think, but he's certainly far from being a true point guard.
He's a chucking headcase. Not someone I would want to risk my franchise on. Take it from someone who has seen him playing since he was in the 6th grade. He's not quite as good as his hype machine makes him out to be. Is he talented? Yes. Will he take that talent anywhere? Not likely. He's all athleticism no brain.
I know he must be better than I saw last night. Even considering that, the guy doesn't look like a top 5 pick. I will try to catch a few more of his games to get a clearer picture. Seems like they show K-State and Michael Beasley twice a week but USC is never on TV. What disturbed me about the UCLA game is they didn't even double-team him and he played way out of control. I give him credit for keeping his calm despite everything going wrong for him.
No but he played basketball here in Kentucky when he was younger (in Ashland at a small school that was part of the All A Classic that my school goes to), then transferred just across the river from me to North College Hill in Ohio. So I have been watching his highlights and hearing about his shenanigans since he was a 7th grader. (I misspoke when I said 6th earlier - though we did hear a bit about him the year before he got to Rose Hill) Never was I so glad as when Walker left for college and OJ transferred to Oak Hill. Then high school basketball around here got back to normal. I don't mind talented kids with brains and ego, I just can't stand the ones that are stupid with ego.
thats cuz my Boy Russell Westbrook had him down on LOCK. The best man defense I've seen from Russell or in general from anyone in college today. The man only made two shots, one of which came when Luc Richard was guarding him, the other on the alley oop. Other wise he couldn't even got shots up, I mean we forced him into more turnovers than shot attempts last night. it was great to get those bi**hes back on their "black out the bruins night" thats was just great. and davon jefferson talking smack had nothing. and the whole injuries crap and no depth is bs. we've had our share of injuries too this year to key guys but the difference is Howland is a good enough coach to trust and develop his 6-10th guys so if need be they are ready to play whenever. that was terrible coaching by floyd and total mistrust in his other guys he had over a week to prepare for the game there is no way you can tell me that during that week that he didnt try to get more guys involved in drills and plays that would just be just very very poor coaching on his part thinking he can go with 5 guys against UCLA. and yeah I've never been too impressed with Mayo he seems like a guy who guys his points due to the volume of shots he takes Love though on the other hand is just a complete beast he just grabs everything just around him. the only thing that i see him get away with now and then is on his inbound outlet passes (which are just amazing to see him shoot it down the court that far with that accuracy) he sometimes steps over the line before he releases the ball.
OJ Mayo is indeed overrated. Being smart in entrance exams doesn't mean he has basketball IQ. OJ is a classic case of dominating against weaker and smaller high school guys but can't translate his all-out dominance in college. I've watched the UCLA game. He got totally shut down by UCLA's swarming defense. If I'm not wrong it was Westbrook who was matched up with him. He couldn't do jack against him 1-on-1 even. If you're talking about shooting PGs/undersized SGs who are sure-shots for the pro-game, I'd take Jerryd Bayless then Eric Gordon before OJ Mayo anyday. In fact, I think Bayless might really make it big in the pros. I can't quite find a player comparison to him, but he's a scoring PG who's really smooth and has the poise to make good decisions when passing the ball. He's gonna be a good-if-not-great guard for years when he declares. There's an in-joke going around my bunch of homers that Bayless has Orange Juice and Mayonaisse for breakfast, lunch and dinner
I am not talking intelligence in the book sense, I am talking common sense. I could care less how he tests on paper, I am talking about what he does with the god given talent he was given and the boneheaded things he does because it seems he has little self control.
OJ played a great great second half last night against Oregon. Won the game for his team. He's certainly a victim of having too much hype at too young and age, but that doesn't mean he's not a great talent. I know they're listed at similar sizes, but OJ just seems taller and much more vertical to me than someone like Eric Gordon. Rose has probably had the most lackluster of the 3 in regards to freshman seasons, but he has that PG premium working for him, in an otherwise relatively weak PG draft. Jerryd Bayless has come on real strong lately, and again has that PG premium. At 6'3 he's got plenty of size for that position, and he's shooting great (43% from 3's). Could he be the best guard taken this draft?
Bayless from Arizona is better than Rose in my opinion I saw them play in person and its not even close.
