Does the trade of Bonzi open the door for Kirk to obtain some playing time. While not the highest Bball IQ on the team. The guy is an athlete and plays D and has good post up moves. His jumper is erratic and I don't trust him handling the rock. However, if runs Ricky's offense that should keep him/us out of trouble. With Bonzi moving on, I think we are exposed against taller 2 guards when McGrady goes out of the game and I definitely don't think a 6' 2" 35 year old guard is the answer and I'm not talking out AI. Let's give Kirk a shot since we haven't traded him yet. My wish is that Morey is doing something more.
Yup. It may be an opportunity for Kirk Snyder, but now we have to go through "the new guys getting used to the offense and each other" again. Right in the middle of a playoff hunt at that...
I completely forgot the guy was even on the roster. I definitely can see him getting some time on those nights where we face teams with more than one big, quick wing player. Battier can only guard one guy and Tmac has a clause in his contract about not wearing himself out by playing defense for more than 5 plays a game.
definitely you figure adeleman has confidence in him to trade bonzi he is the only guy who could do a lot of the same stuff bonzi did and he is also quicker and has a better (though everyone does) jumper than bonzi. he can post up but not as well as bonzi did. I really hope this opens a door for him he has gotten a real chance ever since his injury last year. i would hope the coach would have a say in who gets traded MID-SEASON in a tight playoff race esp a major rotation player
I voted to give him a chance, BUT...at the same time, we have to win every game we can from here on out. That means his chances will be short and will be limited. It'll be tough for him. Hope he's ready if they decide to give him a chance.
Snyder's not happy, he's said he wants to be traded and he's never figured out how to work within the system. All indications are that Morey was doing his absolute best to move him out of Houston before the trade deadline. I don't think Snyder's going to see any playing time.
so let me understand we are trying to get more ping pong balls now. i thought i was giving up but damn
We need perimeter defense against big guards and small forwards.Kirk needs to do a good job, slow them down, attack the basket, finish and make free throws. If he can do 80% of that,we will be better off with him. I seriously doubt if he can do anything unfortunately.
Realistically it's gonna be hard for him to crack into the rotation. He doesn't have a brain, falls in love with the ball in his hands, and I don't know where you came up with this "good D" stuff because he pretty much sucks. His only upside is his ability to slash and go to the basket. His shot looks really awkward and I doubt he'll be making them much either after such long inactivity. Plus, I still have that grudge when he did that s***y dunk and yelled in front of our bench, getting us that T. How do you like that bench now, punk?
Luther is definitely not th answer against taller - posted oriented SG's. He get's murdered by them. Someone pointed out Kirk's pouting and wanting to be traded, which may impact his playing time negatively. However, I don't see us competing against the quality of tall SG's from Golden State, Utah, Denver, etc.. without help from Kirk.
I agree, he does need to see the wizard of OZ for a brain, however, dude does play D. He played very good post defense against the Jazz when Luther was getting murdered by screens and post ups. Also, Dallas inserts Stackhouse into the game immediately as soon as Luther checks in and goes with the post up. We will need him to play some minutes of credible defense in the playoffs against high scoring teams like Golden State (B diddy, S. Jackson, M. Ellis, Azubuke, Pietrus,) Utah (Korver), LA (Vujauic <sp>, Walton, etc..) Denver (JR smith), so on and so on
I doubt it. I think the idea, in addition to improving our cap situation and adding a veteran PG for the second unit, was to free up an already crowded rotation at the SG/SF spot, and in particular to get more minutes for Luther to improve shooting. If the Rockets can't acquire or trade for a wing player with size, then this is a big gamble. Like last year, we'd only have 2 players with size playing at the SG/SF position in the rotation (McGrady, Battier). Adelman has used a small backcourt in Sacramento before, so it's not like he's against that idea. And amongst playoff teams we'd face, the only teams that uses a large backcourt which could really give us problems defensively is LA and GS. Let's up hope we don't match up with them.
Dallas would also give us fits with moving JT to point and putting Stack at the 2 against our small ball lineup. If you keep Kirk, you better start getting him ready and his confidence up.
I think Snyder will see some clock when T-Mac goes down again and he will without trying to sound negative.
