I wouldn't be holding my breath. According to some article(s), Memphis is not looking to deal anymore.
We need more length, athletisism, speed, power and strength in our front court if we really want to compete with some of the Western elite teams. The current trade does not address this need.
Hard to believe so many people hate this trade. This trade helps the Rockets in the long run. And it could help us in the short term if we can get Miller or Artest.
This trade sucks! This team finally starts to jell and is now the hottest team in the NBA. What a great time to screw with what's working.
Basically it was a Bonzi for Jackson trade and throwing in James will help us this offseason and next season. Hated seeing Bonzi traded, but getting an experienced PG was a huge priority for the rockets and it covers our biggest weakness. The rockets fate will not be left in Alstons hands now.
This is a move aimed at both the playoffs and the offseason flexibility. Short term and long term. It addresses our current biggest weakness. Our biggest weakness is not at the backup sg, it's the pg postion, particularly, the lack of a stable veteran pg in the playoffs. Alston shot 33% in the last series. Brooks is too raw to count on. The last thing in the playoffs we want to see is Alston and Brooks running around like chickens with no other options! It's a little risky as Bobby finding his niche on this team isn't a sure thing, but the standpoint is sound. Time will tell.
it's a strict money play, it adds nothing tangible to the roster, it might well derail the team chemistry that was giving us a 9-win streak. Bonzi won a couple of crucial games for Rox, he was the missing piece of the puzzle, now Les wants to drill a hole in it because he can save a few bucks. damn!
Garnett is the rare total package. But when you go to a supermarket with a shopping list, you don't come back empty handed just because there is no single item there that can meet all your needs. I think we should at least do something to address our current front court weaknesses.
Why is that? We have a combo of Yao and TMac, three servicable power forwards, a well playing backcourt, etc... I think we can win it all. Will we? That's another story
I didn't think the Rockets were going to get out of the first round this year and this trade doesn't change that. Bonzi wasn't exactly stunning me with his incredible play, but he was doing okay. Mike James was a huge disappointment. Bobby Jackson is around 10,000 years old and he isn't the final piece to anybody's puzzle. The Hornets are screwed if they think Bonzi's their savior, though. I understand the reluctance to rely on Brooks to run the point in the playoffs, and I suppose Jackson is a reliable guy to relieve the ridiculous load on Rafer. Fact is, our chances for getting into the second round were already slim and I don't think Bobby freaking Jackson improves our hopes any. I can only assume that this was done to get rid of James' contract as much as anything. I don't really expect the McGrady experiment to continue after this season, so if this trade gives Morey more flexibility, so be it, I suppose.
I want a follow up trade..I also wonder why Memphis is involved with this trade..hope we could still add Miller or Artest...if not, i'm all for signing Mike Harris..
i find it funny how some ppl are upset that this ruin the teams chemistry yet they are the same ones that wanted us to get either artest or miller.... btw i like this trade short term and long term
I think it's possible as well. But the rockets would have to get hot at the right time. They certainly have the talent to do it, with or without bonzi. Do I think they will? I doubt it. But I have faith that this team has the capability to do damage in the playoffs, unlike in the SF/Mobes era.
