    Read Feigen's article again:

"With Luther Head back from his groin injury, Wells' playing time was expected to decrease in the backcourt while the emergence of rookies Luis Scola and Landry has already reduced his minutes at power forward, where he often finished games early in the season. Wells' playing time will now be spread among Head, Landry, Scola, Chuck Hayes and Steve Novak.

    ...

For the Rockets, however, the key to the deal was to try again to find a veteran point guard after the additions of James and Steve Francis failed to bring help."

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/5557996.html

Looks like there are 3 issues at hand:

    1) The most important issue is that Les wanted to get under the Luxury Tax. That was a strict order for Morey and there is no way around it.

    2) Bonzi may not even get any playing time with Head coming back. Landry and Brooks also need playing time. Bonzi is also gone at the end of this season.

    3) Brooks is not a reliable backup for Rafer. Brooks needs time to develop. However, we get Jackson, who is another Rick Adelman player and understands Adelman's system.

    4) We have dumped Mike James for Jackson and Jackson will probably be utilized in some way by Adelman, rather than rotting on the bench and eating up precious salary space.

The bottom line is, if Bonzi is going to get less playing time and Adelman wants to tighten his rotation, we get rid of Mike James, and Morey was instructed to get under the Luxury Tax, it was a trade that worked out for us.

After reading a lot on this trade, it's not really that bad. No, I didn't drink the Koolaid but was Bonzi really that good? He is not a great shooter and while he rebounds, isn't the 3pt threat this team needs. A slasher and low post guard, for sure.

I think with Scola getting more comfortable, he's going to take over the 3rd scorer title along with Alston. BJ is a very good backup for Alston and TMAC. This team needs shooters and I think BJ also drives to the basket, right? The good news is MJ is gone. He is not a team player and didn't mesh with this team. I think BJ is what the coach wanted. He's a little old but Kidd is old too! If there is no block buster trade for this team tomorrow. So be it.

However, NO is better now so that's troubling.

I think Morey has a good track record and I would give him the benefit of the doubt a little more before I throw him and the owner under the bus.

i think that's it for the trade deadline.

Question: can we trade bj along with other player to other teams? I thought there were some rules about a player signed or traded can not be traded to another team for a period of time, unless it's 1 for 1

Grizz are under the cap, so they can take a player w/o trading anything. But they may receive cash/picks as return for their participation.

I really do not know what to make of this trade...

All I can hope is that Morey and Adelman know what they are doing, and that things will turn out better at the end of the day.

    Griz done with their swapping
Miller, Lowry not likely to be traded by deadline

    By Ronald Tillery (Contact)
    Thursday, February 21, 2008

LOS ANGELES -- Anything can happen by the NBA's 2 p.m. CST trade deadline.

Then again, nothing is likely to occur regarding the Grizzlies.

That was the tone within the organization late Wednesday with regard to potential deals, specifically regarding guards Mike Miller and Kyle Lowry.

The two most sought-after players will remain in Grizzlies uniforms through the remainder of the regular season barring an 11th-hour, earth-shattering pitch from suitors.

"We value these guys," Griz general manager Chris Wallace said Wednesday before the team faced the Los Angeles Clippers. "We have not committed to any deals. There's nothing that I would consider imminent. If I had to put odds on it, I'd say it's more unlikely than likely that we'll do something."

Miller and Lowry have been the subjects of constant trade speculation since the team moved Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers essentially for future draft picks and salary-cap relief.

According to a team insider, the Griz were still exploring potential deals for Miller with the Clippers and the Denver Nuggets.

Wallace wouldn't talk specifically about trades the team was considering but cautioned that he isn't in a fire-sale mode of operation. Teams have routinely approached the Griz with below-value offers with the notion that players can be had strictly for draft picks and expiring contracts.

While Wallace admits that he's never fielded so many phone calls at this time of year, many of them he's deemed unnecessary.

"Contrary to popular opinion, we're not trying to strip the thing down to bargain-basement financially," Wallace said. "We're not looking to shed money. There has to be a basketball element to these deals."

Reportedly, the Griz have officially rejected at least five "sane" offers for Miller and they were not close to consummating anything with the 14squads interested in Lowry.

Denver and Cleveland were among the teams said to have failed in a bid to acquire Miller. That the Griz couldn't find a taker for Brian Cardinal and the remaining two years ($13 million) on his contract was a deal-breaker in most cases, according to a team insider.

"All I'll say is the variety we've had put on the table has run the gamut," Wallace said. "We're trying to put together a team that will start to move up the standings. ... We have to be aggressive. But I never said we had to make a deal. We're excited about what we did with the Pau deal. But we don't have to do a deal every minute."

Wallace didn't rule out a potential deal with 100percent certainty, acknowledging how quickly trade discussions change in the league.

"But there's nothing that we have that we feel is worth doing," he said.
