Bonzi has played pretty well recently, though he was horrible through most of the first couple months of the season. He has controlled his turnovers, and I think he might be our best interior passer. But his very poor jump shooting and free throw shooting can really hurt us.

Jackson is playing. James isn't getting off the bench.

I dont think Head can block newble's driving layup on one end then at the very next possession goes for an ally-oop dunk on the other end.

    Rockets get
    Mike Miller
    Rasual Butler

    Memphis gets
    Francis-expiring
    Snyder-expiring
Bobby Jackson- veteren pg with 2 years to develop their PGs

    NO gets
    bonzi
    james

All teams essentially get what they want. NO was going to trade those two players for what they got anyways. This could be the deal.

A Bobby Jackson move would seem to be a complement to an Artest move.

An Artest move would likely cost the Rockets their backup PG, Aaron Brooks, and result in a minutes crunch at the wing positions if you keep McGrady, Battier and Bonzi-- and Bonzi is the most likely to be bumped out of the rotation by a similarly skilled, but better, Artest.

So, if you trade Mike James (who doesn't seem capable of playing the way Adelman wants, for whatever reason) and Bonzi (who figures to have his minutes stolen by Artest), for a backup PG who has long proven he can play for Rick, it's a good deal.

On the other hand, I'd think the contract math works if the Rocket ship out Francis, Brooks, Snyder, Mike, Bonzi for Jackson and Artest (maybe with a minimum contract filler or two, but it works).

Give us Bobby and give Memphis Butler. Feigan says we need the vet backup PG too.

I am thinking the exact same thing. Jax, Snyder, Brooks for Artest. But the problem is how to keep Artest after this season.

it's a great OFFSEASON-type move. a HORRIBLE move in the midst of the run that the rockets have been on. clutch do you know how much les would be forking up since we are over the luxury tax? lol maybe that half a billion lost is making him worry more about money.

Both ways work, BUT memphis will want someone to mentor their PGs and Rasual Butler is not an adding peice to Rudy Gay. He also has 3 years left while jackson has 2. Memphis will want Jackson more than Butler, but in the end we still get miller.

Has anyone considered the possibility that we are working on a deal that would allow us to take back Kenny Thomas with Artest or Cardinal with Mike Miller by using Bobby Jackson's contract as the trade fodder to help Sacramento or Memphis shave more payroll???

For instance, if we could forward Bobby Jack and the two stiff to Memphis along with our expirings, we could conceivably get back Miller, Cardinal, and Lowry? Or we get Sacramento to send us KT along with Artest in exchange for BJax, and the same bunch plus Hayes???

BJax is an expiring next season. Both team have made it known they are looking for a salary dump of Thomas and Cardinal along with the player. I am inclined to believe Memphis would be even more interested in this because of their financial situation. It would shave $10 million off their cap next season, getting their payroll down to less than $35 million.

This trade seems really confusing. As the article says, Brooks is taking over the back PG, then why trade for another back PG? It could be a three-team deal to get Artest, where AB or Bjax go to Sac with expiring and a pick.
I think the Rockets can get way better offers for Bonzi.

As a PG, Jackson is definitely better than Head. And, perhaps more importantly, he's got one year less on his contract than Mike James. That means Jackson's value increases next year because he'll be an expiring contract.

But is it worth giving up Bonzi? I look at it this way. Our rotation is over-crowded as is. There isn't going to be room down the stretch for Brooks, Luther, and Bonzi to all be in the rotation, even though all of them are capable rotation players. So, looking forward, do we value Bonzi's size, experience, and interior scoring more than consistent outside shooting? If we are giving up Bonzi, that probably means much more minutes for Head which suggests the Rockets are favoring better shooting.

In his chat the other day, Daryl Morey pointed out that our biggest weakness as a team has been our shooting. Last year 3-point shooting was a strength, while this year it's been a weakness. This might be a calculated move to free up more minutes for better shooters and hopefully up that 3-point shooting percentage, along with turning James's expiring contract into a trade asset next year. It sure would be nice to have another wing player with size who can finish, though.
