I thought we were $1.5 million over (prior to the trade). But I also thought I heard somewhere that minimum salaried players don't count against the luxury tax? If so, if one of the two scrubs we are getting back qualifies as a minimum salary player, then this will definitely put us under the tax threshold. Again, I can't see the Rockets giving up Wells unless it gets us under the tax and saves Les several million in the process.

I hope both. The two have expiring contracts. Signing a waived Brent Barry makes this deal a whole lot less uneasy.

There won't be a follow up trade. Giving up Wells also means losing rebounding and adding extra pressure on the defensive end for Tracy.

Kirk snyder is more of a black hole than bonzi wells, He's a walking Turnover and he doesn't move and play withing the system. Bonzi has given us toughness, rebounding, inside scoring he moves without the ball better than anyone on the team, but more importantly what if T-mac is injured again bonzi gave us a legit 2 guard that can put up numbers if this happens.

    NO BOBBY JACKSON PLEASE!!!!

i don't even want this guy on our team, let alone for Bonzi! i've always liked bonzi, even before we acquired him. He's an explosive player that can go off at any given moment in ANY game. We need this kind of player in the playoffs! Plus, he's a proven NON-choker, and we all know we need more of those in the playoffs! I think Jackson would totally corrupt the chemistry on this team. I'd rather just have less talent with more chemistry.

What the hell is up with andre miller ??? We should be trying everything we can to get him using Head/James/Snyder/Novak/Hayes

While I would LOVE to add Brent Barry if he's waived by Seattle, if the whole point of the Rockets' trade tonight was to get JUST BARELY under the luxury tax threshhold, why would the team immediately sign Barry and go OVER the threshhold?

If this is just a cost-cutting move with no follow-up, I will be very very veryyy upset! I'm having problem controling my anger just thinking about
the possibility of that happening.

This is what i will remember forever if Bonzi is traded:
Yesterday when Yao was trapped at baseline by Z and Lebron, Bonzi was the only person cutting to the basket for a layup and saved Yao from another TO

Why are we looking into a cost-cutting move instead of upgrading the bench? It looks like Moreyball is into effect....

Bonzi is also an underestimated passer and knows RA's system better than anyone else.

Maybe after they saw Landry guard Jared Jack they figured he could play the two and take Bonzi's spot :p

I don't like this deal if they don't replace what Bonzi brings to the court in at least some way - trading a backup two for a backup one with no real replacement for the backup 2 doesn't make sense at the moment. We'll see I guess.

It tells me we aren't comepting for a championship or even to get out of the first round.

    Les will save money

And then lose money he could make in the playoff.

    Dumb move

The deal doesn't get the Rockets under Luxury tax and Barry would cost a pro-rated 700k if he signs for the vet's min.

I think with this move the Rockets are genuinely worried about PG depth.

Brooks, Head, James have been played SG. James hasn't played at all.

It's just Rafer manning the point.

Le$ has to be a master of marketing. Every year he fools Houston into thinking this team is a legit contender with motto like "It's time" while in the background he has his people working on cost cutting measures.

Of course he can fool people year after year when he has a marketing machine like Yao on the team.

Let's not forget this is business after all and Les is out there to make money, not lose it for a chance to quiet possibly make some noise in the playoffs. If Cuban was our owner, we would be over luxury tax and taking risks right now. Don't expect expensive risks from our owner. If Les is going to take significant luxury tax hit, the move has to be close to certain in making Rockets a serious contender in his eyes.

Just accept the fact that we have a cheap owner. He cares about winning but he is looking to do it cheaply.

What happens when T-Mac goes down? Are we starting Skip and Bobby in the backcourt?! Is Snyder getting his minutes back?! This makes no sense, especially in the middle of a 9-game winning streak, to start trimming the fat now IMO...

Im hoping like clutch says there is a reason for this.

    But logically im thinking

Head has been injured since 5 games ago. If Bonzi is shipped. Head will come in as backup 2. T-mac can slide to 3 to relieve Battier from times. Rafer and Brooks share the same minutes with Bobby Jackson in the mix as a 1/2. If this is salary cutting then they must think Head can replace Bonzi's production
